Directions

Directions
From Pacific Coast Hwy, (Rt 1) exit to go west bound on Channel Islands Blvd. About 6 tenths of a mile you have to make a left turn to go over Rice Blvd overpass. Left on Ventura Road to go South. Travel about 3/4 mile to the Main gate on the right and just past the new Seabee Museum. Turn right onto 23rd Street to the gate (the street changes names from Sunkist to 23rd Street at this intersection, just to make things confusing). Once past the gate, continue straight ahead. Go thru 3 stop lights, the last one is Pacific Rd. Two blocks down, turn right on Salsa Road. If you get to the railroad tracks and the 4th stop light you've gone too far. Go slow, 15 MPH speed limit. RV park is at the end of the Salsa Road.

This park has been given high ratings in the past which is hard to fully understand. First of all it is very expensive $40 a night. For this, the internet is almost useless, there is no cell coverage in the area. TV signals are very weak also, and there is no cable tv. Normally I just use my cell service to stream when in campgrounds like this, but the cell coverage for my provider (ATT) was too weak. The office says they are in a cell hole, so I suspect the same may be true for other carriers. The lawns are dead, the sprinkler system has been broken, and they say it's too expensive to fix. The facilities are clean, however much of the amenities (BBQ, washers, dryers) were broken. Access to the park is easy through the main gate, and there is diesel at the station right there are you leave. If they charged the typical fee of $10-20 a day, I could understand this; however at $40 a night I expect more. The park was only about 1/4 full at this time. Nonetheless, for the long term stays, they make you leave anyhow after 30 days. Wasn't a issue for me, but others there were complaining.

We had read some previous reviews that weren't so inviting so was a little apprehensive until arrival. However, we were surprised at how wrong we felt the previous reviewers were or how much it must have changed. This park looked amazing when we first drove in. There are many pull-thru sites here. They sites appeared well taken care of with fresh green grass. There were two dog parks. Neither had water by the dog parks to help with clean-up nor did they have bags or a garbage can. We did use the laundry by check-in. It was FREE to campers. There were two washers. One was broken and appeared to have been broken for some time. There were four dryers and two were broken. The location here was perfect. The commissary and NEX were good sized and there were plenty of activities on and off base. Beaches were close. Maintenance staff and host were friendly and always seemed to be working on one thing or another. WI-Fi worked great. A negative -- Office staff ... not so friendly. There were two in the office at check-in and the brunette was a little curt. I wasn't in a hurry to go back there at all. It would have been nice to have received a map of the area. We thought this a nice place and would consider returning if in the area. Yep, it was $40 a night!! Oh, one more thing, I really hate calling NavyBeds for reservations. They are hard to understand depending who helps you. They must be timed on each call because they talk so fast and try to get so much in. I've found it much better to call directly to the park, if possible.

Most of the below reviews have many things that I agree with but overall I found the park nice. I got caught up with the price increase from $30 to $40. Even though my reservation said $30 they said sorry we had a price increase April 1st. The commissary and exchange are well stocked and clean. The laundry is free and so is the ice but the machine by us was broken. We were in site 47 with a 43 foot 5th wheel close to the laundry and dog park.

I marked Amenities/Facilities and Value down for two reasons. The lack of any grass, particularly in the new area, and the 30% increase in cost (now $40) will give us pause before we stay here again. It is one of the highest we have experienced. Having said that, the staff and facilities are excellent and have always been very helpful and courteous.

BE ADVISED, THE RATES FOR MILITARY/RETIREES HAS GONE FROM $30 TO $40 PER NIGHT, BOTH HERE AND POINT MUGU. Unfortunately, as with other military parks, the site fees do not seem to come back to the park. I noticed several sites with cones in them, indicating they are not open for campers, either because of electrical or water problems. Also, most of the grass is gone from sites, leaving dirt and weeds. I spoke with one of the maintenance men and he said that they are beginning a project to clean up the plants and trees which had begun to cover areas where people walk their dogs. While the description says that the sites are 40'long some sites are longer than others. In the older part, we are able to park our 45' RV with no problems. I also agree with the LK23 reviewer, there are still sites which look cluttered, even though the rules do not allow that. It is better though than in past years. The park staff have always been helpful and friendly at check-in and if I have any questions. One lady in particular, Sue, has been there for years and is always friendly when you stop in at the office. With the price hike to $40 though, we are going to look at a different park for our December trip in 2018.

We have stayed at Fairways RV Park many times in the past. This is the first time we find the campground in a state of poor repair. Almost all the grass and some of the palm trees in the new section are dead from lack of water. It is basically dirt and a few weeds around the concrete pads. When you check in, the office staff hands you a list of campground regulations with a verbal warning to follow the rules, yet there is obviously no enforcement of the rules. When walking through the campground we observed the following: clutter around many campsites, multiple vehicles parked at campsites, parking on the grass (or dirt) and large, aggressive dogs that are specifically prohibited in the regulations. The regulations do not specifically prohibit parking on the grass or dirt. I found I could not park my tow vehicle next my RV without two wheels on the dirt. I asked the office if this was OK and was told no. In my walk through the campground, I counted 14 vehicles parked off the concrete, some with all four wheels on the dirt. The occupancy was around 30-35 RVs. And be warned. Most every campsite has small invasive ants, typically around the utility hookups. Some campers had a circle of Comet cleanser around their RV and others were spraying Ortho Defense almost daily. Otherwise, this is a decent campground in a great location, close to the beach and close to restaurants and shopping in Ventura. On the positive side, the dog run received a lot of attention while we were there. The grass was watered, bushy shrubs removed and trees were trimmed up to 5 to 6 feet off the ground—a 100% improvement. At least the campground cares for the dogs. Before departing, the office staff gave us a letter from the Navy MWR Recreation Director announcing that the RV Park daily rates will increase on December 15, 2017. We were verbally told the rate was increased by $10 per day. We stayed 30 days in November and the occupancy rate was roughly 50%. I am guessing that the occupancy rate will be much less at this campground when it is priced at $40 per night.

I am a retired DOD Civilian and my wife and I arrived on 4/2/2017. We were passed through the gate and welcomed by the camp host. Although the park could use some maintenance, we considered it adequate. On returning from a shopping trip Monday afternoon, we were stopped at the main gate and my wife was refused admittance. We were told that a retired DOD civilian could not sponsor anyone on base. My wife (a Navy veteran) spent the night in a motel. We moved to Seal Beach the following day and it turned out to be a much nicer park.

Weeds, Weeds and More Weeds. The pictures are way out of date, looks like someone cut way back on grounds keeping, dry weed infested sites, full of burs. Grass is gone way of the weeds, dead trees due to my guess of a lack of water. Poor shape from what it used to be when looking at comments. I will not waste my money here. We just came from Seabreeze RV south of here at Seal Beach, the grounds have grass, were mowed and kept up, a night and day comparison. If you're coming from the North, just keep going south. The only thing this base does have a commissary and exchange, so if you have to stop, stay one night, get gas, stock up and move to Seabreeze.

Unbelievable. If you are planning on getting any mail while you are here...dont. No post office on base. Mail does not get delivered to camp ground. Staff must go into town to pick up the mail and that is a big if not when. Grounds keeping is far and wide. One day the mow 2 spaces, and weed trim another and than leaf blow another. Now when they weed trim they do a 10 foot section and skip 5 feet and start again. Management is not on site so you have young government employees unsupervised. Nobody can give you a straight answer when asked a question. There is a camp host but I have never seen anyone moveing around there. Now concrete pads, yes you would think on a seabee base they would have been level, no such luck, they slope left and crown in the middle with each end being different heights getting level requires one end of your motorhome to have the wheels up in the air, plan on a lot of blocking under the tires. It seems to me that with a little TLC this could and would be a great location to stay. Keep in mind this location is one of the most expensive Military camp locations I have been to. Golf course is playable at best again another location on this base that could use some structure and management. Employees are not the friendliest. The amazing point of this is I spent 27 years in the military with my last deployment in Iraq. Either the military is changing but in my day a military base was clean neat and well maintained. This whole base could use some structure and care. Perhaps with all the cuts in the navy taking pride in your base and duty station is not the case with the navy. a good wind good blow this place to the ground.

We came down US 101 from the north so instead of following the directions off of Hwy 1, we did the following: Got off US 101 at Exit 68, Seward Ave. Made a left on Harbor Blvd which will turn into West Channel Islands Blvd. Turned right on North Ventura Rd and then just past the Museum, turned right on 23rd St. Then followed the directions after going through the gate. Saved a lot of time and the traffic is much easier to deal with. Stopped at the NEX gas station which is just past the gate on the left and filled up with diesel for $2.44 per gallon. The end island closest to the road has the diesel pumps with clearance of 13’ 8”. Check-in was a piece of cake. We stayed in the “new” section on a cement pad that was very level. Plenty long enough of our 40’ coach and room to park the towd. Verizon had 2 bars of 4g and there is no problem getting a satellite signal anywhere here. Washer and dryers are free. Free WiFi that most of the time is very good. Slows down in the afternoon and early evening. Every 24 hours you will need to log in again. About a 35 mile drive to President Reagan’s Library and Museum, a must see when you are in the area. Make reservations online for that.

Great location makes the $30/night easier to take. (Just used to $18-20/night at most military campgrounds across the USA!) Nice campground. We have a 40' 5th wheel, which fit onto the pad, but the Ram 3500 dually had to be parked elsewhere. No way was it going to fit. It was also a little tight getting out of our spot, but still doable. Free internet worked well and took advantage of the free laundry. When we arrived, we had to wait over an hour for someone to return to the office. Wish we'd know about that, since I had called the day before, but no real biggie. Two dog parks. Every day I picked up poop that other people left behind. Oh well, is what it is. I'm sure we'll be back.

This is my first review. Stay here for the July 4th holiday weekend, Thursday – Tuesday. I have stayed at Seal Beach in Seal Beach and Fiddler’s Cove in San Diego. I must say that are top of Line when it comes to RV parks. Spaces are wide and the parks are well maintained. Will visited again. This is my only drawback. This is 2016 and it’s a shame that undercover Racism is still here on the military bases. The Camp Host is the person I’m talking about. It’s 4 of July weekend. On Sunday he comes back with new rules from the base commander. I have no problems that, but here comes a unnecessary comment (Your music will have to go. My group average age is 60. We are listen to Jazz and Blues. We are a group of 6 Motor-homes. The 2nd incident was Monday @ 1900 the Camp host Stop at your site and said that he was making his rounds and stop the check to make sure that thing was alright. We are on the second and third row parked behind each other. I watch him go to the end of the row and turn left and then proceed to got to the back of the park and turn back to go into his spot. He never checked any other rows. But the other rows had parties going with many outside guest. If you are doing row checks then do row checks, not stop at the only Afro Americans in the park. All our neighbors enjoyed the weekend with us so much they asked where we are going next so that they can be there with us also. But as I stated the park in 5 stars. Hospitality 2 starts due to camp Host.

This RV Resort is ideal for a short or extended stay. There is a golf course steps away from the site, there is ample parking spaces and the hookup sites have ample size to accommodate all sizes of RV's. The restrooms were very clean and secured with a push key pad. The location is fairly close to beaches and a pier for fishing. The staff were very friendly and courteous, helpful and profesional. The Navy exchange is within walking distance. Small base everything is close by gas station, small movie theater front gate. The area is well manicured and clean. Overall for the price and value it was worth the amount paid. I would stay again and highly recommend it to others. Two thumbs up for this resort good job, Go Navy Rec.

Very nice facilities with large well kept sites.  Free laundry and clean bathroom and showers.  Great place for golfers with course a short walk from the Famcamp.  Seabee Museum on Base is new and interesting.  Large number of empty sites while we were there.

Gated community on a golf course. The camp is well maintained and has dozens of spacious pull through sites. The full hook ups and wifi were functional, though the wifi was tedious because of it's daily login requirements. Laundry was FREE. The commissary and exchange are close, but not walking distance. One of the best FAMCAMPs I've seen. It's close to the beach and the vehicle import facilities. Seal  lions adorn the docks if you know where to look. I had no problem entering and exiting the three gates. This is the home of the Seebees and you might have some additional entertainment as they practice tent set up, base defense or equipment operation. You can't find a better place, even if there were no winning lottery tickets just laying around.

This is my second time here, the first was 4 years ago. The FamCamp has really been enlarged and a newer Bathhouse to accommodate the larger numbers of RV's. The issue with a detention center/detour has been resolved, just not here anymore. I had a good WiFi signal my whole visit. Everything seems well organized and even when I called on a weekend to make reservations, no problems encountered. Kudos to the efforts gone into this place. Recommend to all.

This is a well run and clean facility with spacious pull through sites. Reservations were easy by telephone. Upon arrival one can choose a site based on availability. Laundry is free and the bathrooms were very clean. Convenient to Port Hueneme, Oxnard, Venture and Point Mugu. Sightseeing is convenient along the coast not withstanding traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway. Add to directions if traveling the 101, exit #64 - Victoria Ave, Turn left on W Channel island Blvd, then right on Ventura Blvd. Stay in right hand lane and enter the gate on 23rd Ave. Main gate, 24 hour gate, will be 50 yards. Do not use the Victoria gate as it is for commercial inbound only.

Very nice RV Park. We were surprised it was only about 25% occupied this time of the year. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Wifi was one the best we've ever had at a RV Park (still not 4G fast). Base has a good NEX and commissary. Enjoyed the free laundry (for now) and free movies on base. The Navy reservation system still needs to improve, but at least their trying to have a centralized reservation system. Enjoyed our visit!

KBUG (Know Before You Go). The back gate on Victoria is no longer RV friendly and it is not posted. No one seem to know which gates you can use or agrees on their hours. What is certain is that the base does not want RVs at the back gate now. HC
