The five stars all the way down the rating chart says it all. We loved this campground and if not for plans already in place, would have happily extended our stay. Kenny and his staff are welcoming and do a good job of maintaining the campground, and providing guests with information about the area. Our stay here made for a great place from which to explore NOLA and its environs. Walking distance to commissary and BX makes it an even better campground.

In a word - FANTASTIC. I'm going the full 5 stars because Aviation Arbor has got it all, and as they say - Location, location, location! Have stayed at many military facilities, including some ranked as "Best Military Campground" and this needs to be classed right up there with them. Level concrete pads surrounded by well maintained grass, with lighted gravel roadways; excellent 20/30/50 amp electric with sewer and water (and an added bonus of extra long water hose at most sites for cleanup); clean and modern bath house and laundry facility; short drive to commissary/exchange and base ITT (closed on Sun/Mon) and other base amenities. Having given top marks to the facility, I can't say enough about MWR park manager, Kenny McCune. One of the most helpful site managers I've come in contact with, he runs this facility with pride and it shows. Need area info or a recommendation for a good place to eat off the beaten path - he has it all and gives each "resident" personal attention to make the stay comfortable. Speaking of food recommendation - if you want great catfish - Adams Catfish House is just a few miles from the park - awesome food! Thanks for that also Kenny!!

Excellent campground, well kept, rules enforced, with exceptionally clean bathrooms. Mr. Kenny McCune the manager is a gem! No matter how busy, he takes time to know his guests. He's a wealth of information on local eateries, how to get to New Orleans via the free ferry, and amenities on base. The WiFi is the best I've experienced in 3 years of full time RVing. Very powerful and unlimited use. Only drawback is the command still requires base stickers which are not being issued anymore at most military bases. I was allowed to proceed to the campground, but the next day needed the usual documents to get a temporary sticker. Easy enough but can be a surprise if expecting entry based on only a military ID card. Folks at base security were polite and helped with the process. Be careful arriving at night as the turn into the campground has two small entrances separated by a huge drainage ditch. Wouldn't want anyone to suffer that "sinking feeling". One of the top 5 military campgrounds I have visited.
April 7th to 28th, 2013
Pleasantly surprised at this new military campground. Right now the cottonwood trees are blooming and it looks like a light snowfall here this morning. The two seperate campgrounds are definitely what many other military campgrounds need and the long term or homestead campground is occupied by folks who are neat and tidy and not noisey. I have not heard children screaming or dogs barking or have seen an abundance of items stored outside their RV's and the campground looks filled to the max so someone keeps them on their toes to stay this way, very impressive. All amenities provided are of top quality and I expect it will stay that way as their written rules and regulations are provided when you arrive. Not sure why some larger RV's would have trouble backing in as we had no trouble with a 45' class A and we have the fence in front of us. I usually use my MiFi but tried the WiFi and wow it out performs my MiFi. The exchange and commissary are in walking distance and well stocked with just about anything you need. I mentioned the fact in the form about remembering to ask for military discount as you shop and eat and frolic in New Orleans as some are as high as 50% on food. This will be moved to the top of our list as "go to military campgrounds" and yes Kenny and all personnel we deal with are what customer service is all about.
1-6 April 2013
Very nice RV park with all the amenities. Fairly level concrete pads, good 30/50 amp elec and good water pressure. Not a lot of lights which helps with sleeping. Kenny, the manager is doing a great job and will give you all the information you need to enjoy your stay in the New Orleans area. About a 30-40 minute drive to the free ferry at Algiers Point. Washer/dryers work great; $1 to wash and .75 to dry. You will need a sticker to get on base. When we arrived they let us go to the park but I had to return the next day for a new sticker (new windshield recently installed). When they say that I-10 and LA 23 are rough, they weren't kidding. Be sure to have chicken at Willie Mae's Scotch House and a Po'boy at Johnny's. I'm glad we came and will return.

T.L. left this review using the Directory software: - Very nice looking rv park, modern hookups, level concrete pads with gravel roadways. First half of park is for larger rigs. Mostly back in sites.
25-30 March 2013
I'll second, third, fourth and fifth the previous reviewers comments. Kenny is one great manager and goes out of his way to help and inform. One thing we noticed was the GPS coordinates whacked out our Tom-Tom. The first set which takes you to main gate actually took us in the back gate and neither took you to the park. I show the office being at 29.8201 -90.0208 The WiFi is up and fairly fast.

After spending two weeks at the Aviation Arbor RV Park, south of Belle Chasse, New Orleans; I have to relate our experience. The parks staff was delightfully, courteous, pleasant and went above and beyond the call of duty to answer any question. Staff provided maps and helpful hints, to maneuver around the massive interstate system in the city of New Orleans. They encouraged using the easy access to the city by way of the ferry. Staff provided maps via map-quest with complete instructions to all the area attraction. With the helpful maps and our Christmas gift “Gary Garmin”, we had no trouble finding our way around. With the assistance of the Garmin we enjoyed the many historical sights in and around the city and the many towns. Oh my, this isn’t a review of the city New Orleans. What we have here at Aviation Arbor RV Park is a park that will exceed its potential. Retirees, DOD personnel and their dependents enjoy the lush green grasses of the new park. The amenities of the park were clean and inviting. The concrete pads 24 x 40ft are more than enough for even the largest RV. I must commend those who designed the park. Having worked many years with construction materials; the site designated at this location for the park is well suited with a heavy rock base. Providing, a level platform for the concrete pads and the weight of many heavy units. The well lite pedestals hookups, camera security in and around the park, the code locks on laundry and restroom facilities are just a few of the amenities. The park also provides around the clock security of the military MP’s. For all of this you get a peaceful, quiet, RV resort of sorts. The only downside to this profile has an easy remedy. Units larger than 35ft should be directed to sites to the south side of the park. On several occasion we witness 40ft rigs struggling to maneuver around the light post between the wooden privacy fences into the site. The concert pad is more than enough room for the unit; it’s just a tight fit for units larger than 35ft to back into a site. I think we’re all have been spoiled by those drive through sites, full hook-ups, internet & cable all at in one basket, all for under $20. Any RV traveler will tell you, “You, can’t have everything”.’ The cost is more than reasonable compared to outside campgrounds. Even a $5.00 increase would be more than reasonable to cover some of the upgrades needed at existing military campgrounds. Aviation Arbor has water, sewage, & electric. Most RV travelers will tell you they are 95% self-sustaining. Any extras such as cable or WIFI are just a pleasant surprise. What is a big plus for this RV Park is paradise, peace and quiet. No kids riding their bikes across the grass yelling and screaming. Please don’t think I’m against military families and their lodging. The military calls it, “homesteading”. Just check the regulations and you will find it under … IAW AF I 34-10DD1 11015.10 Other installations had better take notice. Some have said they can’t function without the funds of these families occupying sites. Not true, retirees pay in excess of $100,000 or more for their motor coach. The last thing they want is to sit next to is a 5th wheel with five screaming kids and a dog. I know we recently encountered that situation at Lackland AFB, at San Antonio. Many a retired RV travelers will not be back if they have to fight to get a sight where they can relax and socialize with other retirees and veterans. I have to commend the personnel at Aviation Arbor RV Park. Military personnel have taken the initiative and have separated the homestead families in an area adjacent to the RV Park. The stone covered encampment is complete with hookups. The families can make as much noise as they like. The dog can bark the kids can ride their bikes and yell and scream as much as they want. It’s a sad reality but the longer a family homesteads in an RV the more clutter of bicycles, grills, lawn chairs and even a recliner, collects outside the rig. Making for an unsightly image, a perfect example is located just outside the entrance to the RV Park at Aviation Harbor. But in this situation the military has set a 6ft privacy fence along the back side of the park as a sight and sound barrier for the park. Any RV traveler can and will complain, about anything. Not strong enough WIFI, too many potholes, lack of signage to mark the entrance; camping fees to high, not enough activities in the area to entertain. Just ask, and someone will complain about something. This isn’t a complaint it’s an observation. By now Kenny knows what needs to be fixed and it all takes ‘time’ and ‘money’. This RV installation, at Aviation Arbor RV Park at New Orleans deserves an A+. I know I will be putting it in our destination file for next year. To Kenny and his personnel, job well done! You deserve so much more than just a simple ‘Thank you’.

This is a hidden jewel! The location of the base is perfect for exploring and enjoying the New Orleans area. We stayed at the campground at the height of Mardi Gras season, and had no difficulty traveling to the French Quarter. As other users have stated, Kenny runs a top-notch facility, and he provided us with a wealth of information that really aided us in planning our itinerary. We took advantage of using the Algiers Point ferry, which disembarks passengers at the heart of the French Quarter riverside area. Using the ferry eliminated the worry of crowded downtown parking areas, and provided peace of mind knowing that our truck was in a manned parking lot. Campsites are well laid out, with plenty of room at each site, and between sites. Suggestions that could make the campground even better: put a couple of chairs in the laundry room, and provide a picnic table at each campsite. This is a super campground, and we will be staying here again!

Was in town for Super Bowl and stayed there. The manager, Kenny is very informative, along with the other folks who work in MWR. He provided us information about the ferry to downtown, best way to get there and good restruants to eat at in the area. The park is very new, have to be aware as sign identifing park is hard to see from road. Its a very nice park. Large sites with easy access. We enjoyed our stay and would come back there again.

Great location just south of New Orleans. The only problem is driving here from Highway 10 is difficult being you are in the city. The new park has all level concrete with great eletric and water. Laundry is 75 cents a load and I think dryers cost the same. Exchange and Commassary is closed on Sunday. I would come here again. Please note the new reservations number is now 504-678-3449 which will be the MWR office on base.

J.C. left this review using the Directory software: - Nice, clean park. I felt that $20 per night was a good rate, expecially given the proximity of New Orleans. There is a free ferry as was mentioned. It is about a 25 minute drive from the base. Back gate has restricted AM and PM hours. We followed route directions from directory, is one small tunnel (probably 13-14 feet headroom. Route 23 is OK, just slow and congested. We are a 43 foot motorhome with tow.
14 December 2012 to 15 January 2013
We run a 40' Itasca Meridian pulling a Chevy Cobalt. We stayed at Aviation Arbor from 14 December 2012 to 15 January 2013. Kenny, the site manager, was very amiable and helpful with all our needs. He was available whenever we needed him. We liked the facility very much - the large concrete pads on nice landscaping close to the edge of the "swamp". We experienced some heavy rainstorms while we were there - the channel on the south side seems to drain well and there was very little standing water anywhere after the rain. WiFi was available, but went gunnybag after a few days. I reverted to my Verizon with no problem. Someone with no WiFi backup would be inconvenienced. I guess someone eventually reset their router, as it started working again in a few days. Good otherwise. Probably should have someone monitoring the network on a daily basis. The limiting factor of only two pull throughs turned out to not be a factor. It's not that difficult to unhook and back in - there is plenty of maneuvering room. We would definitely stay again, and will later. It's great that they have finally gotten this new RV Park operational. It was needed.
November 16 - December 4, 2012
Kenny runs a first-class operation. We stayed here in a large 5th wheel and we would definitely stay here, again. The only downsides are the mosquitos (you are in the swamplands of Louisiana, however) and the unpaved (gravel) connecting roads between the large concrete pads. There are only 2 pull-thru sites, but the connections (W/S/E) are top notch. When we stayed there, WiFi was still a work in progress.
17-24 Nov 2012
We visited NAS Belle Chasse during the Thanks Giving Holiday Week. We have a 32' Class C Sunseeker and towed a Geo Tracker. The base is about 9 mi south of New Orleans. Kenney was very helpful with everything we needed. We put our bikes on the back of the car and drove to the ferry, walking our bikes on the ferry and crossing the river to Canal street where we rode our bikes around the city. The best way to see NOLA! The campground is fairly new with only 5 other campers there. The restrooms are clean, safe, and secure along with the laundry room. The Exchange and Commissary are right up the road. We had a wonderful time and will definetly be back! Tom & Sal

C.S. left this review using the Directory software: - New campground, very nice, Kenny, the campground manager was very helpful. I have visited many famcamps, this is one of the best. Management is the best.
Nov 7-13, 2012
L.B. left this review using the Directory software: - Previous reviews say it all. An unused Gem. The RV park is close to the exchange and commissary and the base has a lot of the amenities of a full size installation. And it's all new. You're a distance from downtown NO, but check with Kenny (all that is written is true) and he'll direct you to the ferry. Parking is $5 weekdays, $10 weekends and the ride is free. You exit downtown, approx 4 blocks from Bourbon St. WiFi was up, but iffy. Problem has been identified (additional antenna required) and correction is in the works.
Late June 2012
Wonderful, all new sites! Spacious sites with concrete pads and clean, well-maintained grounds. Internet access was still being installed, but otherwise this campground has everything I could have asked for. The bathhouse/laundry facility was clean and well maintained (its new of course) and is a short walk from anywhere in the campground. Kenny was very helpful and informative-the best "host" I've ever dealt with. The campground is about 25 minutes from downtown.
