The main gate to Laughlin AFB (entered from US Hwy 90) will be closed from December 6, 2007 to approximately March 15, 2008 for maintenance and renovation. Entry to Laughlin AFB will be strictly through the West Gate, which will be open 24/7. For those traveling, US Hwy 90, turn South on US Hwy 277 (Eagle Pass Highway), which is in Del Rio (look for the McDonalds and Sonic Drive in). Drive south for about five miles, turn East on Spur 317 for about 2 miles to the West Gate. For those coming up 277 from Eagle Pass/Laredo, you will need to be on the lookout for the Spur 317 turn, as you will be out in the country with no landmarks to look for. Once through the West Gate, continue to Liberty Drive, turn right and continue to the FamCamp. When I drove out to the 277/317 intersection two days ago, the base did not have any signage up indicating Laughlin AFB. Hopefully, they will put something up by December 6th.
