I can only pass along information about this site, due to limited access starting 01/04/2021-01/18/2021. We went to the visitor center to receive information about accessing Fort Rucker. The Fort has a "LIMITED ACCESS" in effect for the dates listed above. Lake Tholocco RV Park & Campground phone message when calling, also reflects this, by saying no reservations will be allowed for this time period.

Nice campground, seems quiet and clean. It is in the middle of training grounds, so hiking trails are not nearby :( There is not a Shellfield Gate, it is Faulkner Gate and only has M-F hours, no weekends and holidays. However it is the most direct gate to the camp if you can get in during open hours. Access card gets you 25% off, not 33%, but still good!

It's a beautiful park, on a lake and is relatively new so the facilities are new, as well. Gorgeous, new bathhouse. They do not have full hook-up (W&E only), but do have a dump station. The setting and sites are great, but it is in the middle of nowhere! 30+ RV sites, paved with concrete pads, fire pits and picnic tables. Everything is well taken care off. The layout of the sites is nice, too. Sites are spread out and they have lots of pull throughs. Because of the location, antenna TV reception was a challenge. If you have a portable dish, shouldn't be a problem. It's a distance to anything, even base facilities. If you have a reason to be in the area, it's a great stop.

What a great park. We only stayed one night and did not use the laundry. The bath house was exceptionally clean. The base is off the beaten path and our gps didn’t help much. I called outdoor rec/lodging and Melissa was most helpful. She emailed directions to us on the road and we found it without any problems. The base has a new commissary that was well stocked. We would definitely stay again,

We camped here in our 37' coach on the Columbus Day weekend and decided to return for Veterans Day weekend to take advantage of a MWR conducted bus ride from Fort Rucker to Pensacola NAS for the Blue Angels Homecoming. The bus ride was a fiasco but that's another story. Engineer beach is a well appointed small family camp RV park and the only thing lacking is sewer hookups. The sites are well spaced and easy pull-through or back-in with well constructed concrete pads that will accommodate even the largest RVs. The helicopter "noise" is acceptable to most but I guess can be irritating to finicky folks. A very big plus is the MWR office provided a 25% discount for our Passport America pass reducing the normally low $18 nightly camping fee to just $13.50! PLEASE NOTE: Our GPS coming in the Ozark gate had us directed to take our coach across the Lake Tholocco dam on Johnston Rd. THIS IS AN AUTHORIZED OFFICIAL VEHICLE ONLY ACCESS ROAD. I have provided this information to Google so until this is corrected follow the directions posted on this site.

We had a very nice stay at this campground in our 35' motorhome. PROS: VERY large sites (many pull-thrus), beautiful lakeside property, clean showers & restroom. CONS: Noisy helicopters overhead until late in the evening (bring along earplugs & deal with it), no sewer connections - need to use dump station on the way out. One suggestion: provide signs directing campers to register at Outdoor Rec office on the way to the campground (we almost drove on by until the maintenance guy waved us down!) All-in-all, a very nice campground.

We just finished a five week cross country trip from FL to CA and back in May. We stayed at 9 military RV parks. All are very different. We absolutely loved staying here. The RV park is located a few miles from the main part of the base. However, the views at the lake are so beautiful. The clubhouse is large and clean. We recommend visiting Fort Rucker Aviation Museum. It was wonderful and free. We will be back.

We came down 231 from Troy and our GPS wanted to take us in to Fort Rucker on a closed road so be careful with your GPS. The staff was very nice and really wanted us to be happy! This Campground is very secluded in nature and very quiet with the exception of aircraft from time to time. TV reception with our standard RV antenna was slightly broken up from time to time. There are very strict rules here and they are apparently enforced… “Thank Goodness”… because the place is absolutely beautiful, clean, quiet and very well maintained! They have a clean after yourself rule here to include squeegeeing after you use the public shower and I suggest that you follow these rules because the grounds are equipped with video cameras so if you decide to leave a mess then smile you are being filmed and you will be asked to leave! The lots are very roomy, level and with trees as mentioned beautiful place. This place is great both for the elderly (like us) to relax and also for the young family because there are picnic grounds with playgrounds and beach nearby (driving distance not walking distance). The Commissary & Class 6 is well stocked but the PX was a little on the lean side, we were surprised that it is so small. We found Fort Rucker, Dothan and Ozark to be very nice and clean but outside of these we were discouraged with the roadside litter outside of Fort Rucker. The people in this area seem to be very nice, both on post and off post.

We enjoyed our stay in this campground. The site had a nice concrete pad and the campground was very nice. All of the people we interacted with were very friendly. Our GPS did not work with the coordinates, it brought us to a gate that isn't listed. If in the area again, we would definitely stay here.

What a wonderful place! Sites were great, lake looks wonderful, laundry and restrooms clean, and everything was close by! Wi-fi was weak, good water pressure, and the base was convenient.

A hidden jewel. The camp boss are wonderful, very friendly and helpful. This camp is peaceful, average size and sitting on a beautiful lake. The fire ring already had wood for a fire, the site was cement and very level. Only here one night but will surely return next year on our way to Florida.

W.B. left this review using the Directory software: - The previous positive comments still hold true. The revitalized campground is very nice and big rig friendly. NOTE: They moved the office! You now check in at the marina. They just had the grand opening last weekend of their brand new office/store. They are just getting the store together, but they have fishing gear and snacks so far. Great folks, too.

The RV Park is a away from main base, nothing in walking distance. It's on the lake and nice and quiet. The whole place had been upgraded since our last visit. Sign in is now at the marina and the camp is a few miles down the road. Lots of open spaces when we were there, reservations weren't needed. All roads have been paved along with most sites. I have a little rig and only need electric when I stop for the night. There isn't full hook up but a dump station. WiFi wasn't up yet. Antenna TV OK. Still I couldn't get the cheaper rustic areas, they are saved for longer stays. The new bath house was finished, neat and clean, two big open showers on both sides. There was a laundry and club house but they had combo locks. We were only there a night and the office didn't give us a combo. If we were staying longer we would have asked the Camp Boss. Another little quirk, Camp Boss doesn't sound as friendly as Camp Host but that's what they call it. The pictures on this site are older pictures and not of the new bath house or paved roads. Still you get the idea of what a nice quite area it is.

The road to the campground is now paved as well as the campsites themselves. They are building a new bath house/laundry and it looks like it's almost complete. Verizon cell phone worked well. Verizon aircard also worked well, though I use an amp and external antennae so I'm not sure how it would be with a plain aircard. Overall a decent campground with plenty to do.
