FROM LITTLE ROCK: Take I-30 or I-440 South to I-530/US-65 South. In about 31 miles, turn left onto Hwy-256. ---- FROM TEXARCANA: Take I-30 to exit 98. Turn South on US-270 for about 43 miles. Turn North on I-530/US-65. In 2 miles, turn right on Hwy-256. ---- ALL: Take Hwy-256 to the Plainview gate. HOWEVER, immediately before entering the gate turn left into the parking lot. Visit the Pass and ID office to get a vistors pass. If arriving with any size of RV, you must enter through the Commercial Gate (Dexter Gate). If just in a car, you can use the Plainview Gate. To return to the Dexter Gate, head back West on Hwy-256 to Hwy-365. Turn tight which will take you to the Dexter Gate on the right. Look for COmmercial Vehicle signs. Regardless of which gate you enter, you need to check-in at the Fitness Center (Gym). From the Dexter Gate, ask the gate guard for directions. From the Plainview Gate, go through the gate to the first intersection and turn left onto Sibert Rd. About a mile down, the Fitness Center is on the left next door to the Credit Union. Once you've checked in, return South on Siebert Rd to the stop sign. Turn left onto Hoadley Rd. Take Hoadley to the stop sign and turn left. Immediately make a right turn onto List Dr. Follow this road around and it turns into McCoy Rd. Drive past the Conference Center and Dilly Pond. Around the corner, turn left onto the first road, which is a gravel road. Follow this gravel road around Yellow Lake. Keep to your right at the gravel intersection. Drive past the old small-arms firing range and you'll see the campground on your left, immediately before the Arkansas River.

We spent two nights at this FamCamp and absolutely loved the privacy. It is absolutely no frills, but does have electricity and water hookups. It is also located right on the Arkansas River, so bring your fishing poles. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go by the driving directions as listed. The FamCamp is very remote and I suggest you get an escort (they did this at the gate) but getting to the gate is very easy. There is only 2 turns off 530. Call the gym and get reservations or if you are coming in after hours like we did, just get an OK and check in the next day. This is a great place to just chill out and relax. Small town close by has stores etc.

B.VW. left this review using the Directory software: - We arrived at the commercial gate after hours and found it to be closed. We called the number on the door for security and a very nice guard came to the gate and let us in. He advised us that he thought the campground was closed but led us back to the area anyway. We found 4 empty sites with electric and water. The grass was cut and the area was clean. I drove to the MWR building the following morning to register. The girl working was not familiar with any campground so she called the MWR manager who said we could stay if we wanted. There were no facilities available. We stayed two nights and paid $8 per night. It was quiet and peaceful. Loved it. I guess it just depends on who you make contact with upon arrival whether you can stay or not.

Was turned away at the MWR desk who explained RV park was out of service. Electrical problems "or something" with no money for repair. No estimate when might be reopening.

Stopped by to check up on this rarely used campground. Being a "closed post", due to being an arsenal, security was the most difficult part. Follow the above instructions, be patient, and all will be over with quickly. Gym staff was very helpful. Finding the campground was a bit confusing, but I think we've made clear directions. There's not much to say about the campground. Old, neglected and rustic. Sites back up to trees and the river. Satellite reception wouldn't be a problem. The electric boxes, picnic tables and BBQ's are falling apart. Plenty of room for large rigs to maneuver. This is a quiet location, as you're away from all other base activity. For a private and quiet campsite, without any frills, this is a good place to stay with great rates.

Pine Bluf is a great stop over. They only have 20 amp service, no sewer, but they do have water hook ups. They also have a dump station, but not water at the DS. There are only four sites, at a cost of $5.00, or $15.00 a week. They have a two week max stay. The Campground is located between a lake and a river. The sites are large, can accomadate any rig. Our internet card worked good, Satellite was quick and easy to set up. Cell phones worked great also. It does take a little to get on the Post. You have to go to the Dexter gate, and go into the entry control point. It took about 30 minutes to get the pass. You must have a driver license when you go into the control point. They check to see if you have any felonies, DUI's, and other stuff. If so, you will not be granted access to the post. You must keep the pass for your and your spouse with you at all times. After you attain your passes you go to the gym to pay for your site. Get direction to the campsite, it is a little hard to find. All in all a great place to stop for the weekend or just a couple of days.
