Nothing good to say about facility or staff. One person in office totally untrained. Booked over two months earlier via 1800 Navy Bed. When I arrived to check in, which had terrible signs to get to, I handed her my reservation and was told the site was not full hook up, which I was told it was, The site I had reserved was given to someone else, that morning! No others sites available for my 40 ft diesel push with full hook up or long enough to accommodate my length. 30 amps site where not available because her computer would not allow the change to 30 amps. Very frustrating after driving 5 hours. Right after me another guest shows up she too denied. She know enough about the area that she and I both got into Navy Base Ventura. Worse MWR so far!
We stayed here 5 nights, but had we had other accommodations we would have left the next day. We didn't stay in the main RV Park as apparently they still have no sewer and/or water hook-up due to a line break. This appears to be going on for some time, which I believe would be something of an urgent matter?!?! We were moved to the other side which is on the beach but with a tall rock wall, but a short walk you can be in the beach. The bathrooms in this side are disgusting. They told us if we want to use the shower to come to the main area of the park as they are maintained. It would not take much to keep the bathrooms near to this side of the campground clean! It appears nothing is maintain here, such as electrical/water hook-up post and pick nix table benches missing the seats. An employee on base said this base is referred to as Point Megee" and isn't cared for at any level. So disappointed in this campground. The price should be the $20 range not $40.there is no WIFI. We will not be back. We did have high winds, but that's the weather for you.
The one good thing about this RV Park is it is close to the ocean. New MWR Bldg is nice. Staff does not offer anything unless you ask. Checked in okay, but I had to ask for a map of the base (1st time here). With a sigh she searched for a map. There is NO WIFI. No cable TV. Unfortunately my satellite system decided to crash which meant I had to put up the RV Antenna. We got 12 channels. ABC, Bounce, Ion, 3 Spanish channels, 4 PBS channels, Jewel channel, and a channel that shows really old programming. The sites are really quite small. We had a back in site and we had to move the picnic table to squeeze in our Chevy HHR. The absolute worst thing are the hordes of Mosquitoes. They are everywhere. 2 minutes outside my RV and I must have been stung 10 times. They are very aggressive to the point our dogs didn't want to go outside the RV. I called the desk and asked if the base sprays for mosquitoes and was told "I think so." Stay away from any vegetation! For the price of $40/day I think we got short changed. This is our first time here. We will not be returning.
I’m a full timer and the promise of WIFI is kind of critical. I’m here for leisure/necessity. That means I’m in the park long term. Everyone is raving about the host, but the regular staff are worthless. They don’t answer the phone, they shrug their shoulders if you complain about something, “meh, that’s how it’s been and it isn’t getting fixed.” The organization and operation is haphazard, didn’t even get a pamphlet with the codes to the shower room or a map of the facility. The grounds are generally “adequate, while the staff has a less than 1 year old building to work out of with functional internet. All of the managers are located on Port Hueneme and they are easier to reach than the reception desk. Oh yea, they only have 1 washer/dryer for the hotel, yurts, and RV sites which are all managed together.
Terrible experience and I am submitting this review in hopes that it will not happen to anyone else. So, we are going to California. As a Navy vet, I was pretty excited to find such nice-looking accommodations at such a good price. A yurt on the beach - sound terrific - sign me up! I asked the people on the phone several times to be sure that it was OK that I was no longer active duty, not retired, just your average vet. Sure sure they said. Can you check with your manager, I asked. Sure - everything is fine - looking forward to having you. Flash forward several months and we pull up to the gate, tired and ready to hit the rack at 7:30 p.m. Gate guards say no. We call the office. They say we are so sorry, you have to be active duty to get on the base and so cannot stay here. You know, they said, this is the second time this week that this has happened. The people on the 800 number keep making these reservations. So, there we are, family of five, parked in the dirt lot outside of the gate, googling a new place to stay at 8 p.m. in the evening on a Saturday night. It's not the 800 number people who are to blame here. It's the people who manage the 800 number. This was completely unacceptable - there are other "Navy words" that come to mind. The upshot is that they need to fix this now.
I was here with high hopes, the location was great just south of Ventura, on the beach, Navy Base. But after my trip I feel compelled to say what was not mentioned in previous reviews about this place. First the campsite employees. Maurice is great and so were some of the veteran ladies working in the office. But then there were the young and inexperienced few that could not tell us the hours of the laundry facilities, when I asked them they just said I don't know and made no effort to get an answer. Front office. They do. It have a reservation POS or software to de conflict people moving their trailers everyday. I was there for four night and I moved my trailer three times to three different sites. There is zero effort from the employees to deconflict this disappointing experience. Campsites. One thing that made moving every morning was the campsite design. It has very narrow one way roads the straight back in sites only. Talk about a pain in the butt to get into, and you have that to look forward to every dam morning. Mosquitos. The campground in right on the beach, but behind it and all up the coast to the north is stagnate water marshes that produce Mosquitos by the hordes. You get eaten alive once the sun goes down. They always find a way inside our trailer and feasted at night. Everyone on my trip had over 50 bites from head to toe that itch still after a week. This is the reason I will not return, you cannot escape the Mosquitos. Last thing is the beach. If you are expecting to have some fun in the waves, this is the wrong beach. There are no waves to ride even a body board on.. Just slippers that crash into the sand. I was expecting something better or just some kind of wave I could let my kids ride a boozy board on. Not here.
My wife and I are stationed here, and basically live in the facility. While the ocean and views are spectacular, that is about it. There is an engine testing facility within the camground, and it is LOUD! Forget a quiet day of rest here. Also, the jets and planes fly right over your rig, ruining any ambiance. Tom, the camp host does a good job with limited budget. The shower rooms are clean, but the men's shower has a broken head in one unit, and there is no heat, which is needed here cause it is COLD most of the time. Most sites are 30 amp, and the 50 amp are worse location. Sporadic use of internet, some sites don't work. Our main complaint after all that, is the price. Outrageous at 690 a month (23 per day, no monthly rate). Ridiculous to charge monthly active duty this rate for ZERO amenities. Most other MWR camrgrounds in other states charge FAR less, and offer FAR more. Selling the view as the main reason this costs so much is bull chips. We were at 630 a month, and were supposed to be "locked in" for 6 months, but greedy manager insisted on collecting 690 to be "fair." fair to who? the mangers who collect good salary for 10 hour work week? I think not. I could live with the limited amenities and the noise if the price was right. We live here due to poor base housing and costly rentals in town, mostly to save on gas. If we didn't have to, we wouldn't stay here. I recommend the nearsest KOA, pay the same or less and get a HOT TUB and POOL!!
