Campground Information
Always call ahead to Farish for road and weather conditions before making the trip. This is a tent and cabin camping environment and is not intended to be an RV park for large rigs although there are two sites that could handle a large RV and four more that could handle smaller RVs. The last mile or two of the entrance road is a wide, well-maintained dirt road. All interior roads at the recreation area are dirt roads and some are quite steep. This is a paradise for tent campers with sites located along the shore of several small beautiful lakes. This place is in the boondocks about 45 miles from the USAF Academy and base facilities and 6 miles from Woodland Park, CO. Lodge w/4 Bedrooms sleep up to 4 each, includes 1 BR w/ Bath, Queen & Bunk bed. Cottage sleeps 8 includes gas FP, sofa, TV & kitchenette, Queen beds. 6 Duplexes sleep 5 each, inc. Awesome! Location was fantastic...great mountain area. Only about 5 miles away from town of Woodland Park & Hwy 24, which has many amenities. Later found out that it is a 8-mile (one-way) hike to ASAFA. The staff was very helpful & friendly. We stayed in a tiny cabin that only had bunks & queen bed (which was fine!)and a porta potty nearby...both were very clean. The campsite included a fire ring and picnic table as well. The only downside was that the showers were located near the duplexes...not walking distance. One lake had paddle boats which my daughters' loved. Will definitely be back for a longer duration.

Gorgeous location; perfect views of Pikes Peak at top of park. If taking a larger RV (I have a 35' fiver), I highly recommend trying to get into Pavilion 4. It is at the top of the hill directly behind the office. The availability of water is a bit deceiving. Water is a community spigot on the side of the road across the street from Pavilion 4. If coming in dry, you will definitely want to fill fresh water before parking. 110 electric is also available; however, it is 20amp service. This worked okay for me as I was testing out my new solar system, but a little frustrating when thinking you are paying for electric. Luckily, the temperatures were very mild and we didn't need to use the a/c. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One thing they didn't mention (of course we didn't know to ask) is that if you plan on going to the Air Force Academy after being there, if you get a fishing license (they issue their own), it is good at both Farish and the Academy lakes. Overall, this experience was very pleasant and would definitely consider doing it again.

My boyfriend and I recently attended a wedding in Manitou Springs. I was looking for a cheap(er) place to stay with amazing views. I figured since I was using PTO for this a Holiday Inn just wouldn't cut it. Needless to stay I came across FRA and booked my weekend there. There were no pictures so I crossed my fingers! All I could say when I first got there was WOW OMG WOW. You drive on 24 past Manitou up higher into the mountains into Woodland Park. Then you drive in the woods for a while, you feel lost at times but just keep going! You drive into a cabin office where you can buy maps, t-shirts and get your keys. We got the keys and drove back to the 'duplex/cabin' area and right there to take your breath away is Pike's Peak, clear as day, right there above all the aspen birch trees. Depending on where you are you can't always see the mountain but whoever built the sight made sure it was in your face the WHOLE time. The window over the sink looked out at the mountain! The trials were AWESOME. Clean room with flat screen, DVD/VHS and cable to keep you company at night. All the forks, pots/pans/towels anyone could need. The price was great, only $85 a night! If you want to rough it you can rent there cottage/rustick cabin that doesn't have electricity or rent a camp site by the lake. They have a VERY nice community bath for people who choose those options. You can rent mountain bikes, fishing poles, paddle boats you name it! This place is so awesome and SO BEAUTIFUL. Trails are right outside your front door, LITERALLY! This is the best place to stay to take advantage of the Colorado wilderness during a short stay. I highly recommend it.

H.H. left this review using the Directory software: We did not stay here, but we drove thur and checked it out. The staff were very friendly and the camp sites all had fire pits and tables. Some had covered picnic areas. There were nice and clean shower facilities. The Vistor check-in building had some supplies and fishing equipment to rent and buy. There are three trout lakes here open for year round fishing. One lake had paddle boats and life vests for use.

My rating of 4 stars is an average grade for tent and cabin camping. Tent camping - 5, Cabin camping - 3, RV camping (small) - 3, RV camping (medium) - 2, and RV camping (large) - 1.
