Florida panhandle was created by wstro30306
I am planing a trip to the panhandle of Florida in December in our 22' travel trailer. We are wanting to check out either Destin Army Recreation Area or Oak Grove Park in Pensecola. Can anyone give me advice on which one is better?

The answer can be very subjective. Everyone has their own idea of what "is better".
We have a large motor home and would prefer Oak Grove. Only because the RV sites are further apart. The sites are pretty close together at Destin. However, Destin is still a very nice RV Park. Our reason of preferring Oak Grove over Destin wouldn't necessarily apply to you with a smaller trailer.

I can't speak about Oak Grove, since I haven't stopped there....yet. I can tell you a little about Destin Army Rec area though. It's a gated community sited on the bay that is a combination of RV sites and rental units. You enter the area with a key code at the front gate. As Larry pointed out, the RV sites are small and close together, but are certainly big enough for a 22' travel trailer. All the sites are concrete and back ins. Utilities are good and easily accessible. Each site has a picnic table and grill. The last time I was there, the wifi in the rec area wasn't working, but you could get access in the community room.
Amenities: there is a pool, fitness center, community room, picnic areas, and a marina with boats and watercraft for rent. Everything from a jet ski up to a pontoon boat. There is no swimming area in the bay, but the Air Force maintains a beach area just a couple of miles from the rec area. The beach area has a pavilion, snack bar, beach furniture rental, and a large parking area. The best part? It's NOT crowded like the public beaches in Destin!!! LOL
I posted some pictures on here a couple of years ago. They're at Destin Army Recreation Area Pictures.
Have a safe trip and enjoy yourselves!!!

Since this is your first post here and maybe new to this website be sure to read the reviews on both places as they can be informative and may answer some of the questions you have as you read the narrative. You will have a good time no matter which one you stay at as the Panhandle has so much to offer.

You may also want to consider either of the 2 CG's on Eglin AFB or the CG at Hurlburt AFB. If you haven't already, you may want to check these out on the Facilities Info section. Lot's of options in the Ft Walton Beach/Destin area.
