we are planning on going to the panhandle in the Oct timeframe. it has been a few years since we have been down there, just wondering which is the better park to stay at. I did like the one that was a Pensacola navy near the museum, great location, but we are open for suggestions. I thought about even heading to the Keys, but you never know if you get a site or not at the Navy base. And I have heard all good things about Mayport over on the coast.

You should not have any trouble getting into Key West Sigsbee RV Park in October. We were there in April and were told the winter crowd does not get there until Nov./Dec. Mayport or Kings Bay also are both great RV parks to stay; you would not be disappointed at either one. Just be sure you call Mayport and Kings Bay to make your reservation as far out as you can. They are both very popular but during the fall we have never had a problem getting a reservation. In the Panhandle we have stayed at Destin Army Rec Area and my only advice here is based on what type of RV you have. Book says 40' max and it can be tight for that length. We stayed there with a 39' class A about 4 years ago and it was tight. No longer go there as we now have a 45' class A but I doubt it has changed since the book still says 40' max. Good luck on spending time in Florida this fall and as you probably know but I will say it anyway, HURRICANES!

IN the panhandle - Eglin AFB is great. Two separate GCs - one on mainside with FHU (no CTV), the other right on the water, large sites (no sewer, but a dump, and CTV) I spent a month or so there a couple times last year - very nice CG - a little distance from stuff to do, but worth it. Quiet !! M44

BTW: great library, and an excellent 'auto hobby' set-up if you need any maintenance. Also, wood-working shop.

I wouldn't expect to get into Sigsbee the last 10 days in October; this is when the Fantasy Fest crowd moves in. Last year Sigsbee itself and both overflows (one 150, the other 300) were full

i know it could be iffy with the weather down there and that is why we will probbaly not head all the ways to the keys. been leaning to Pensacola, Mayport or Kings Bay. one more warm trip before parkign it for the winter here in Ohio.

I think you've got it backwards majfrizz.....you park it where it's cool in the SUMMER. You park it where it's warm in the WINTER! :silly:

Sorry...I couldn't help myself.

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!
