We are currently parked in Jacksonville, FL at the American Legion Post 137 on San Juan Blvd.. This is a sort of secret place. A little off the beaten path but loaded with amenities such as six FHU sites with 30 amps and CATV all for $17.00 a day, no tax or any other add ons. Four of the FHU sites back up to the Olympic size pool. The other two back up to a wooded area. There are two W/E only sites for $15.00 a day that back up to the river and boat docking area. The whole RV section is gated and security numbers are needed to enter the area via an automatic gate. The club has a full service bar with a kitchen area in the back for serving meals on various days. In the summer months there is a Tiki bar out behind the pool area. The post sponsors all sorts of activities with baseball being on the top of the list.

In the winter months the RV section is seldom used. In the past week I’ve invited two other rigs to come out and spend some time here (pictures provided below). You cannot be a guest and park here. Membership in the American Legion is required. I’m a member at large. If you have a military ID card active, retired, National Guard or some other qualifying type you can show up and join here ($40.00). Other veterans will have to produce their DD-214 to verify their time in service during a qualifying period of time. Some time ago I used the internet to join as a member at large and it was quite easy. Once you have a membership card you can use any of the American Legion facilities nation wide.

It’s very expensive to park in the Jacksonville, FL area when the military campgrounds are booked up so keep this place in mind. The length of stay here is 15 days and then you MUST leave. It’s part of the deal to keep it a private park. It’s situated right on the Cedar River with water access to the St. Johns River. There is a deep water boat launching area with mooring docks. You will see lots of flags in some of the pictures and that’s because this place was all dressed up for President’s day. The main gate at Naval Air Station Jacksonville is less than five miles away. When leaving via the main gate turn right onto Roosevelt, Blvd and go about three miles to San Juan Blvd. Turn left and post 137 will be about two miles on the right just before the Cedar River Bridge.

Picture one, we are all alone.
Picture two, an active duty friend arrives and joins us.
In picture three our long time traveling friends have joined us.
Picture four was taken from our dining room window.

Thanks so much for the info. We're at Sigsbee and wanted to spend a few days in Jax showing respects to my Mom and Dad who are buried there. I grew up on that river and spent many hours in that very location...but this was in the mid-50's. This would be a perfect base camp for my nostalgic homecoming. Is there a phone# or way to make sure they have a site? I'm not a member but only because I'm not a joiner....$40 plus the site fee would go to a good cause. Tnx again, Steve

Hi Steve, Listed below is the link to post 137. I forgot to post it earlier.

We lived in the Jacksonville area for more than 22 years (off&on) and did not know this was here. We have been here for a week now and the longer we stay the more we like it here. Great staff willing to help with any situation. Allways something going on for the vets. Very good west side location.

Oh my. Thus pictures of the river bring a tear to these old eyes. I lived a half mile from there and was on that exact part of the river everyday I could get out of the house. Many thanks.

Look how quickly a year passes by. We spent two weeks at NAS Jacksonville before moving out here. We have been here three weeks today. We asked for, and were granted, a two week extension. Next Wednesday we will move to Waldo, FL for a couple of weeks then move back here for another two weeks before meandering north. We are in the same site as last year, #6.

Well Fast Eagle, you were 100% right. Pulled into site 6 on Thur and MAY continue North on Mon...but maybe not. Love this place. Sitting in the shade of the oaks and looking at the river I grew up on cannot be beat. The folks at the Post are fantastic. Thanks for the tip! It's been a great base camp for exploring the scenes of my youth. Steve
