We are gearing up to be full timers and looking for a mail forwarding physical address domicile. To maintain our Tricare Prime it is mandated we have our physical address within 40 miles of a Military Treatment Facility. Texas? South Dakota? Florida?

We've been on the road for 10 years. TriCare Prime doesn't work for us, as we're rarely near our "domicile" address. We like the freedom of TriCare Standard, allowing us to use any medical facility without prior approval. You might consider switching to Standard, but your situation may be different.

was given this same info when we retired. They told us prime is nothing more than a HMO, and that if we travel to use standard as no prior approvals required. Never had a problem, besides there is only 5% difference as far I know in coverage. In reality I had a supplemental policy that took care of any payment needs.

personally i think standard extra is horrible
a normal procedure i have every 6 months used to cost me 25.00
now costs me over 400.00 because of loss of prime
needless to say....i hurt more now than ever and cant afford the procedure,
oooo but you can get back on prime now if you waive the 100 mile distance
and pay prime fees all the way back to oct of 2013
oh what a bargian

Not sure what standard extra is. I am in the same location currently the Army dumped me at, so I have never left Prime. Also what is this 100 mile waiver? When all that came out I heard it was within 40 mile of a Military Treatment Facility. Also the VA would work for me but the 'BOSS' wants to stay on Prime. From what I understand, when you are out of your area you have to get approval first unless it is an emergency.

Prime worked great for us when we fulltimed from 2005 to 2009, but we didn't travel off the west coast and kept a PMB and domicile in the town I retired in, (Fallon NV). Wife had a full knee replacement done in Yuma AZ under prime. Then it cost $460.00 a year. Now, under Tricare for Life, it costs nothing but Medicare Part B costs each of us $104.00 a month. I think it depended on which Tricare Prime
area you were in.
