ID Card was created by Chancellor
I have what you might call a dumb question but here go's My wife was looking at our ID cards
and she noticed that mine has Perm/retired and her's doesn't yet she is also retire military. Is it because I am 100% disable Vet or another reason? I was an E-9 Masterchief she was a E-8 in JAG.
I just found that strange that she has to renew her's in 4 years where I don't.
Thanks all.

Retiree ID cards have had INDEF or PERM on them for about 40 years except during a brief period when some GS-99 decided he could hire more people if there were more ID cards to create. I think it lasted less than a year before someone asked "WHY?" and they returned to reality. Most likely when your wife goes in for her next card it will be a forever ID like the rest of us.
I got a new one several years ago when my old one fell apart and became unreadable. The way they issue them today from the DEERS database is so amazing and so quick.
Your wife may want to "loose" her current card and go in for a new one--hers will one day be a collector's item.

my ID has INDEF on the front, but a 6 year expiration date on the back. Hummmm??
One additional thing I would mention about "falling apart" cards. The security people at the gates have the authority, and will occassionally take possession of a card, if it appears altered or the acetate seal is broken. As it was mentioned, it is fairly easy to get a new card nowdays, so would suggest keeping them "in good working order."

Skyking -- let me guess... your expiration date is the same as the month before you turn 65 years old. That expiration date is only for the civilian medical care under Tricare and when you were required to begin using medicare -- as once was the case. Now, the situation is different, and there are alternatives -- Tricare-for-life and some other variations of Tricare are now avialable to retired over 65 ... so, that is the date on the card ... all other services, base access, CGs, pharmacy, commissary, etc are what "indefinite" on the front means ...
I believe I'm accurate here (check your date 65?) but can certainly be over-ruled by anyone that has different and verified information ---
