Has anyone taken the trip on old rt66 in the last few years? I was thinking of taking the trip in late June. Is it worth taking?

As you'd expect, only parts of it are still 'drivable' -- but I've been on it as recent as two years ago in through New Mexico and some other areas. Extremely historic -- and lots of the old buildings are now in disrepair ... if you like that kind of thing, it's a great trip.

I was going to take Rt66 from the beginning to the end. I guess that you can't do that anymore. I haven't done much traveling in the US. I spent allot of time on 460 between Va. and W Va, and W Va to Pa. but that is about the size of my traveling. I spent 6 years in Italy so I have been all over that area.

You can take it - sort of - it often goes back on other routes to get past specific areas ... haven't tried in quite awhile, but at one time that was a great trip. have you 'searched' it??

Don't miss the Chain Of Rocks Bridge..(poke the X..) across the Mississippi just south of I-270. Now open as a walking bridge..
Bridge website.. we parked on the Illinois side and had a great (almost private) visit..

It's a great trip in the areas where the old road is still there. The federal guvmint did away with the US 66 designation several years ago. Most of the states immediately designated it as a state highway with the 66 designation. Oklahoma has more of the original road than any of the other states. You can go from the Oklahoma/Kansas state line, down through Tulsa and all the way to Oklahoma City on the old road. There are some really neat sites in the towns you'll go through. Once you head west from Oklahoma City you'll have to flip back and forth from SH 66 to I-40 but much of the old road is still there and usable. If you decide to do the trip you should get one of several books on the road. A guy I used to work with wrote a couple of books on the road complete with state by state maps of what is accessible of the old road. Like I said, it's a great trip.
