commissary was created by monkey44
Here goes another benefit out the window !!

Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) is introducing legislature that will privatize our commissary, and put it into the same category as our BX/PX.

Watch the 25-30% saving we now squeeze out of our grocery bills evaporate ... and go into the pockets of some non-USA conglomerate.

This would be a kick in the pants if this happened. Tried researching on the internet to get some more info, not much there yet. Where did you read or hear about this?

Read it on retired USN newsletter, and another Veterans newsletter that I get online.

Didn't detail it too well, and it's 'attached' to another bill as a rider (I think) ...

But it's taking commmissary operating budget out to pay for the Lejune pollution victims - that's the intent anyway.

Most vets and retired organizations are fighting it for us - but we need to show our distaste for this method of offsetting our monies for any new legislation.

Would like to see the electorate that votes this in take a hit on salary too, if they think this is not a hit on AD salary and retired pay, they're WAY wrong.

Because if commissary goes private, it's no longer paid by DVA, but the prices will rise and that's exactly like a pay-cut for those vets that use commissary to shop. Course, it never shows up as that on the budget ... is simply makes us write a bigger check when we shop.

Boy are you right about this and should be getting Army Echoes soon so will look for it there. Will look at the DAV website about pending legislation, forgot about that one so should find it there. We use the commissary as our main grocery store when at home near MacDill and anytime we are near an installation while travelling. I would venture to guess this electorate that is pushing this has no family members that use the commissary so he does not care about those who do. Stay safe and travel happy.

I have looked for this on all the services sites and news links.
I found nothing referencing this, not even on any of the commissary sites.
Not even Military.com discussion boards.

There was an article about this on Military.com last week. The moron is proposing it, but I don't think he's introduced any legislation yet. If he does, expect a LOT of discussion about it!

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!
