As of Monday the 7th all the commissaries are now open. They found money somewhere to open them.

wife has a friend who bags at one, said it may only be temporary! Something about the 16th or when the 'debt' limit is reached. Another example of bho's brinksmanship and the instructions from his staffers to make the shutdown/slimedown as hard as possible on the common folk! This was reported in todays news locally, and now it seems 'they' can allow the states to run the parks after saying they could not for a week!

Amazing is it not how the weasel can turn when he finds that he is down to 37% approval for him and his 'party'!

went to our commissary today. It had a lot of stuff missing that was normally carried, not a lot of folks inside. Seems they are waiting for the other shoe to fall and be ready to close down again without a lot of loss in the perishables?

meat lockers were full, but veggies and fruits greatly diminished. Not a lot of stuff on sale either, pretty much regular prices. Speaking of which there has been some price increases on items we often buy.

Oh well. have a great day and weekend everyone.

Same here in Vegas ... but the prices always rise October 1st every year. That's when the new contracts kick in, and the new vendors. We get a price rise every time that happens - been like that for years and years.

B) Well, here goes! Gonna make a lot of mad folks out there. But, have you compared commissary prices with any of the civilian "big box" stores lately? I won't even bother with the commissary or exchanges any more. I have a lifetime of experience with the military (since 1935 if you include my father). I've seen the exchanges go from the best deal in town to the worst price around. My wife is pretty saavy when it comes to prices and she won't even go across the street to go to the commissary. Between the higher prices and the 5% sur-charge we can find a lot better prices at Wal-Mart or ? Yeah, I know, we are lowering ourselves by shopping at Wal-Mart but we LOVE it! Almost like visiting an old friend. I can remember our once a month trip to the commissary with my mother. LOADED UP ! Not anymore. Ever since it got turned over to the contractors it's gone downhill. The stores are beautiful but I don't eat the building. So, I have often thought lately, what happened to my good ole' benefits? Not much of them left these days!
