Decals, yet again was created by belgique
This just showed up on the Cherry Point MCAS Facebook page. Really don't understand what is going on. Camp Lejeune is part of the same command and they don't issue them...at least that is what a guard told me a few months ago.
"From the Provost Marshal's Office:
This is a public service announcement clarifying the registration of privately owned vehicles aboard MCAS Cherry Point. Currently, MARADMIN 325/11 directs the continued issue and use of DoD Decals at all Marine Corps installations. Per the requirement, all privately owned vehicles of personnel authorized aboard MCAS Cherry Point will be registered with the installation Provost Marshal at the Pass & ID Office building 251. Personnel registering their privately owned vehicles will be issued a DoD Decal for their use. The Marine Corps is researching an enterprise solution of an automated access control platform that will eliminate the requirement for DoD Decals and decrease personnel security concerns by reducing visible signs of DoD affiliation while operating a privately owned vehicle off-base. In the interim, personnel with vehicles displaying DoD decals are to report suspected suspicious activity to their chain of command. Questions concerning current Marine Corps policy on vehicle registration requirements may be directed to the installation Provost Marshal's Office at 466-7345."

Well now the PMO added some more info after a lot of folks started complaining. It seems the Navy has said start requiring them again! If you're interested in this just follow the Facebook thread on "Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point"
Here's the latest quote from the Head Shed:
Folks- to help clarify, The Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Energy, Installations and Environment) memo, originally announced cancellation of vehicle decal requirements aboard DON installations. It is referred to as REF A in the following excerpt from MARADMIN 325/11: THE FOLLOWING ESTABLISHES MARINE CORPS POLICY FOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION AND USE OF DOD VEHICLE DECALS (DD FORM 2220). CONSIDERING RISKS AND BENEFITS ASSOCIATED WITH DOD VEHICLE DECAL USE, CMC HAS DETERMINED THAT PRESENT CONDITIONS WARRANT CONTINUATION OF DOD VEHICLE DECAL ISSUANCE. THEREFORE AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WAIVER AUTHORITY CONTAINED IN REF A, CMC DIRECTS MARINE CORPS INSTALLATIONS TO CONTINUE TO ISSUE AND USE DOD VEHICLE DECALS PER REFS B AND C.

Ok NEWBIE here just starting out this summer. USAF Reserve retired, and now FAA retired. My local AFB (Langley) does not use or issue decals. How will this affect my visiting other installations, should I go to local Navy (Norfolk) to get the decals?

It will depend on service as to whether or not to acknowledge anothers decals. Marins did not recognize mine from an army post. I think marines maybe navy last one to still use decals as the army/air force quit due to costs and uncontroled decals on vehicles sold/traded without removing the decals. DMAFB used to require all to either have mil id or go to visitor center and get a pass. Ft huachuca is all occupants have to have as does ft cartoon in colo springs. Ft hood did also this past summer. Now DM only requires the driver to have a id but that is subject to change at any time.
When I retired and then got a job in ft huachuca area they would not issue decals at the timebecause my home address was in tucson, dm had already stopped issue so I just used the id card and that was it.

Most bases do not require stickers. The Navy was one of the last services to do away with them. It makes sense because it seems all bases I've been to that have controlled entry have a 100% ID check. If you can get a sticker, it wouldn't hurt for base access. From a personal safety standpoint, stickers ID you as a member of the military and a possible target for our enemies.
