My wife and I are retired DOD Civilians. Can we use Military Campgrounds? From my research looks like each individual campground may have their own rules as far as who can use. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, retired DOD civilians ARE authorized in a "limited" category. This basically means the local installation can have local policies on allowing retired DOD civilians. However, VERY FEW don't allow retired DOD. Each listing on this website states who is authorized and will reflect DOD (or not). Also, be sure you have the correct CAC (ID Card) that reflects MWR as authorized.

This article includes copies of the applicable regulations on who is authorized to use MWR facilities.

1. Yes, as a retired DoD civilian you are authorized to use most military campgrounds/MWR facilities. It has always been the base commanders discretion as to whether current or retired DoD civilians can use Famcamps/MWR facilities. I have been using the Famcamps/MWR facilities all over the US, for the past 12 years, and have yet to find a base that did not allow access.
2. You can always call the Famcamps to verify if you will be granted use.
3. If you have a current DoD issued civilian retiree card, these cards will be terminated effective 31 August 2023. After this date, you will need to take your retirement SF50 and a REAL ID drivers license to Pass and ID. Some bases will issue a DBIDs ID card, some will issue a pass, and others simply use your drivers license for access. It is best to call ahead to find out their respective process and hours of operation.
4. I am currently on the road using FAMCAMPs at both Navy/ Air Force facilities and each facility has had a different process. Hope this helps.

They are changing the requirements on retired DOD civilians. Call the visitor control center where you are headed to get the most updated requirements. Most military CG will accept retired DOD.

We just got turned away from Kirtland AFB after having stayed there many times in the past.
