I am currently in the Air Force and working as a photojournalist at Airman Magazine. I recently had a meeting with our staff and the topic of military Fam Camps came up. After a little research I found this site and quickly found it quite interesting. I think there could be a great story here and that's where you guys come into play. If you are an Air Force vet or still active duty and have an interesting story, or know of an interesting story, please reply to this thread.

I suspect you'll get some good story leads from this group. Here's one to start you off with: The owner, webmaster of this website is Larry Farquhar, USAF (Ret). I believe he retired from the USAF in 1997. Until Larry started this website, there was no good, web based, single source of information about all military campgrounds. I used to travel with a directory that I purchased, but it was not up-to-date and did not include "user reviews." This website is not only a comprehensive listing of ALL military campgrounds with prices and user reviews but has a great user forum. All from a free website. I think a feature on Larry and military famcamps would be great reading. Here is some additional info on Larry from an early blog he wrote:

"allenairman", welcome to the website! Glad to see Airman Magazine thinking about running an article about our FamCamps. As mentioned before, I'm a retired USAF E-7. Retiring in 1997. My personal website that was mentioned is getting old. I haven't kept it current for the past 4 or 5 years.
I've assisted Air Force Times, Army Times, etc. on a few articles. Let us know if you have any questions. There's a TON of good knowledge among our 40,000+ registered website users.
Some topics you may want to investigate include:
The USAF Frequent Camper Program - it's a good program, but has had problems these past 4+ years.
Are USAF FamCamps a benefit? Some FamCamp's charge less than $10 a night, others charge $35 a night.
FamCamps - are they becoming less for recreation and more for housing?

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Hey Larry...are you giving this guy story ideas or do you just want to see him get beat up with Letters to the Editor?
They are all good story subjects, and if he wants background on each topic all he has to do is search the forums here! Oh, that and interview Monkey44! :woohoo:
