Not really a FamCamp as it is open to the public. I grabbed one of the only two 1-nite stay sites as soon as I arrived, then went and checked in. That's what I thought I was supposed to do. Apparently not. Didn't see any instructions anywhere. Oh well...it's easier to get forgiveness......Lots of folks in the office, but not much work being done. As a seasoned State Park Camp Host and part time DNR employee, I found this to be unacceptable. There is ALWAYS work to be done in a campground.

Spent the winter in the same site. Made an arrangement to stay past 30 days. Great location, close to Lake Park which has great shops and food. Drove to Moody AFB a few times but found it was just as economical to shop in Lake Park than it was the commissary. 1 1/2 hours to the Gulf, 2 hours to the ocean. Great location to miss all the storms. Grounds keeping at the campground is very poor. People came and raked leaves then left. Two weeks later people came and raked same leaves. 10 washers and dryers and only 4 worked. I spoke to the office about it and they said they were working on it. I asked if they would like me to contact the Command Chief at the base to see if he could do something. Nothing had changed when we left. A new manager arrived 2 weeks before we left, very nice guy. Campground host worked 3 other jobs so never saw him. Steady power and water, even during freeze up. Good internet. We will go back next year.

A bit rundown, expensive compared to other AF Famcamps.

Campground is in desperate need of a competent grounds keeper. Been here 2 weeks and lawn was long when we arrived and is still un mowed. Piles of leaves left from last year still piled up, they did work for 2 hrs on Sunday and cleaned up 3 of about 20 piles, weed wacker came thru today and cleaned around every other bar-b-que stand n then left. Power is steady at 121 volts waters, good, but sewer hook-up is typical military campground setup needed to use my home made pipe extension in order to hook my hose to the sewer. Moody commissary is about 40 minutes away but is large and well stocked.

Spent a total of 7 days in March and April 2019 (2 visits) Camp hosts were great and the St Patrick’s Day Dinner served in club house was an added plus. This is run by Moody AFB and very responsive to comments. After we parked in spot and set up our MH I noticed the picnic table and BBQ grill was full of paint smeared all over obviously by young aspiring painters. We were not going to use grill and we had a table cloth for table. I then walked down to club house to sign in and pay for our stay. I mentioned the grill and table condition to office personnel but made no request to staff to correct. On the return walk back up to MH, maintenance was at our site to inspect grill and table. Within one hour of checking in maintenance replaced grill and table. We will definitely use this campground in coming year as our grandson begins his college career at Valdosta State University.

We have camped here before and are very disappointed the way things are now. As a matter of fact we left 3 days early because it was so bad. It is evident that the RV Park is not a priority for the staff. The park is run down. The roads through the campground are in need of maintance. Thursday is grass cutting day for everyone but the not campground. Water pressure is poor at best. The staff is full of excuses and poor on action. I have never been given paperwork not been told I dont need to read just sign it. Then not given a copy of it. I had to ask for a copy of what I had sign. I was told that they never give a copy to the signer. After a discussion I got a copy. I will not be returning to this campground and will no longer be recommending this site to anyone. I have rated this campground a 2 and that is a gift.

We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay for just one night on our way to FL. We have stayed here before and it was nice, but when I called to make a reservation I was told that the daily rate is now $30 for military, and $40 for the public. More than the FL state parks even with their reservation fee.

I have been coming to this campground for the past five years and every year it gets a little worse. It seems that all the money is being spent on something other than upkeep. The entire time we were there one of the two cloth dryers was Out of Order and on the day we left I posted a note on the Facebook page and got a response from the Manager that he did not realize this was a problem and would get it fixed the next day.I do not understand how the USAF can let a beautiful piece of property like this go to H---.

Good for an overnight stay along the travel route, close proximity to I-75. We had a paid reservation for over a month and when we arrived a young man was just leaving the campground check-in booth. He told us he really didn’t know where we should go and to just “drive around” until we found something. Not easy as we have a toad. We finally pulled into a very un-level spot in full sun as it was the only spot we could find that didn’t have a reservation tag on it. The office was about as helpful as the young man we first met. Don’t think we’ll be back.

We stopped here for the first time as a staging stop on our way to the FMCA Rally in Perry. Even though, many of the previous comments were on the negative side, I don't let others influence whether we stop or not. It is our own judgment whether we STAY long or not. And, we happy to report that we not only stayed our full two weeks but we'll also be coming back next year. As to the "negative Nellies", just want to add, it's all about economics. If management hadn't opened up to public at higher prices and more nites stayed they'd have to have closed the facility. Then what would be said about that! For the two weeks we stayed, never saw the place totally full. So come on in an enjoy a very nice FAMCAMP that has all that your used to having. It's not far from the I-75, yet very quiet. FHU sites! good fishing that free if you're over 65! We were parked in space 32 in the open with great satellite sighting. The office also has ice cream, soda, beer and candy for sale. When we needed to do our clothes washing, the machines worked great, at $1 per load, dryers worked great at $1.25, too. Nick, in the office taught me, between other customers, how to fish this difficult lake.

Unlike many RVers, I'm thrilled to find a famcamp that will allow tent campers someplace to enjoy OUR military benefits too. Pricing is great, facilities were good except the campground bath house is closed due to a failed septic system. Had to use the RV park bath house for everything. They're working on it, but it may be a while for repairs to complete. The view from the campsite was outstanding! I had electricity in the tent to charge my phone and laptop, but the wifi was sporadic. No biggie, I tethered my cell phone (ATT) and pressed on with my web work. Stop in, be pleasantly surprised and taken care of by the easy to work with staff at the office.

Used to be a good stop when heading N/S on I 75. Do you like State Parks? That is what this place has turned into. They ran all the military out few years ago. And now let anyone stay here. Do not have to be military related in any way. C I V I L I A N S are staying here now. And don't mean government civiil service types. These civilians could care less about the military or military members. They are here because the price is right for them. Will never stay here again Should have read and learned something from the warnings given by others on here. If you are military retired or active duty best to not stop here.

Stayed here for one month. This Famcamp is a really nice location, but, it is getting no ground maintenance. There was one day that a crew of two men came out and racked up four sites (one of them the Host) left and never came back and we were their two more weeks. The camp host never once got off her golf cart to assist camper. They also need to ensure that the site people are assigned can be used by them. One camper who was 100% disables was given a site that he could not access the water or sewer from his wheel chair. The other campers assisted him, because, the host was no where to be found. Lots of permanent campers and of course the place is open to civilians so it is not quite as secure as one would hope it to be.

After I wrote this critical review, Steve the Asst Park Mgr, visited me to apologize and explain some problems and the fix he is instituting. Steve was a very genuine person and he will do a great job fixing all the problems he has encountered as the new Mgr. If any of you have encountered problems and this RV park Steve will fix it and I will give them another change. The balance of our stay was wonderful and you all must see the Triangle at Moody with the older A/C. Its Great! Steve good luck wit the new position and you have my support.   ----  (Original Posting:) This park is not anyway near AF standards and I have to blame the Senior Officers for this. The Camp Host, if their is one, has never shown his/her face especially when we got here. We stopped in front and a passerby camper pointed to the office. Staff at office was very nice but did the minimum. The RV turnaround at the office is very very tight and should not be recommended, as they did, for use. Small popup to 25' Ok but no bigger and I almost took out the power pole. I don't agree in letting civilians stay at the CG, they can us the lake but no full timing as they are and again, this is a sign of poor senior officer management especially of my time spent for this benefit, and now any one gets it. I will send a letter to the AFCG and CC my Senator that my benefits are be offered to the civilians in this area, and suggest you all do the same. I also think the Camp Host, if there is one, be terminated. The squirrels do a better job greeting you.  ----  (Jun 11th added:) Steve, the Asst. Park Mgr., recently visited me because of my unflattering review (see above) of the park. The Commanding General/Officer should thank his/her lucky stars they have such a dedicated individual working for Moody. Steve was truly taken by the comments and wanted to know all he could do to fix the problems and some possible solutions. I could tell Steve is a very caring individual and wants what's best for Moody, the Park and us retires. This Park has so much potential and everything works and with Steve's fine tuning will make it a profitable cost center. I suggest to all my brothers and sister who are traveling through GA, stop and stay a night or 2 at Grassy Pond. And visit the Triangle aboard Moody because the display is awesome. Thank you Steve for making our stay a great one and I'm glad the Air Force has selected you. Go Navy and Semper Fi

Nice camp ground.  Nice walking trail around the lake.  Not on Moody AFB proper.  Get off I75 at exit 5.  1.9 miles from exit to camp ground.  Clean facilities.  We heard from a few of the civilians and hand full of military retirees there.  The military do not like this arrangement.  I do not like being negative.  But might as well tell you up front, I do not like civilians in military camp grounds.  They didn't serve but sure want the benefits we all earned. So now for what we saw and how we feel (sorry): The civilians plan on staying.  One told us "where else can I get a site for $450/month with all util paid.  Wifi.  Community house with TV and micro?"  "I am staying."  Other civilians expressed the same. The few military retirees that were there expressed their feelings about these civilians there:  oppose it. Just about two years ago the MWR kicked most of the retirees out of the campground.  Now the door is wide open for civilians to long term stay.  Yes, they can stay 90 days and move out for one day.  The civilians we talked to told us they would go to a local Walmart for one night and come right back the next day. When this place is full of civilians and active/retired military cannot get a space -- how will MWR handle that? Don't think that will happen?  Just listen to the attitude of the office people.  They don't care.  Goal is make the bucks.  From hearing things at the office seems the people on the desk feel "well if they are paid up then we won't move them for a military person."  Just great!  There is a military camp ground in MN that let civilians in a few years ago.  Military can no longer get in.  We stopped there few years ago to check this out.  Yep, could not get in.  100% full with civilians.  Here we served.  Honorable discharge.  Retired.  And a civilian who never served can keep us out?  Something is wrong here folks. The office told us had to let them in or close the place.  Then MWR needs to manage the place better.  And free up some the funding that goes to the golf courses and O Clubs to help out the camp ground. We are sure by this coming summer (2016) the place will be jam packed with civilians homesteading.  And military will not be able to get in. Who are these civilians MWR is letting stay long term at Grass Pond?  We were told one is a ex-con and his girl friend is now in jail.   We were told this by more than one military camper.  THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED. Wow!  Bottom line, do we need any of this type as our neighbor in a MILITARY FamCamp?  This guy had/has guys over in his tiny trailer late at night.  From what we were told, they sure didn't look like coming over for a BBQ and a beer type.  Seems MWR does not know who is coming in and do not check on these people.  These civilians, for the most of them, never served a day in uniform.  They see a great deal and are moving in.  We served with honor.  and have to put up with this?  One of the civilians is doing odd jobs around the camp ground.  Wonder if he is even paying rent? Another civilian living in one of the cottages told us he is staying.  He works at a local factory and is telling his co workers to come on out and live at GP. Another civilian told us he was here.  Went to a civilian campground.  Didn't like paying so much and not getting anything.  So he is back to live long term. Another civilian plays camp ground host.  She pays rent.  Then the office give it back to her as "payment" for work.  I thought this type of dealings were not authorized by AF Regulation? Seems the manager at GP found a way to say she is paying rent.  If MWR cannot make a buck at Grassy Pond then close it down.  We personally object to civilians coming in. Grassy Pond is a very nice rec area.  Too bad it is about ready to go down the tubes with a flood of civilians. We were in the community room.  In comes a civilian woman.  She has a very nasty way about her.  She brings her dog into the community center/laundry room.  When asked to take the dog out she says "I am getting my home sprayed today for fleas and I don' leave my dog outside."  Thanks lady for bringing your mutt and its fleas into the community room.  NO respect here. She is one of the long term civilians who live here. She is in the end spot, one of the best spaces, on the other side of the road to the circle side. Way to go MWR.  Thanks.  ----  Added Jun, 2016: t66quin, thank you for your review.  Sincerely hope you do follow up by sending your written comments to higher ups. Letting civilians in is a big mistake and a insult to active and retired personnel who have served. The civilians we spoke to there had a bad, very bad, attitude about military folks.  Be it retired or active duty.   This did not happen over night at GP. Good olde boy hand shaking has gone on at GP for years with the local civilians (no military connection).  Management at GP knows this.   They like being buddy buddy with the locals.  Instead of taking care of those who are serving and have served! I would be surprised, very surprised, if ****** does anything but give mouth service. The civilians we personally spoke with do not belong at GP FamCamp.  All of them had intentions of homesteading there.  Taking advantage of the low rates.  Few, if any of them, ever served a day in the military. IMHO I would fire the entire bunch who run GP and put some go getters in there who FAVOR the military and not the civilian community.  It will take time but the military will come back.  RI remember civilians (with no military connection what so ever) out there YEARS ago.  So this didn't start yesterday.  They kicked the military out few years ago.  Nothing like group punishment.  Instead of warning and going after the one or few who needed to go...they kicked the entire lot out. Now bunch of civilians are homesteading there.  Some you don't want to know their back ground! The military customers out there will slowly go away.  Then the place will be nothing more than your cheap Ga type of fishing hole camp ground.

Very impressed with Grassy Pond overall! We rented a 2-bedroom cabin for $55 a night (military rate) & our friends had an RV spot. All areas were very clean & well-maintained. Our cabin was spacious & was alot more than we expected from what you normally get in a "cabin" at FamCamps. The RV spot was in a nice location, too.

Stopped in Grassy Pond Fam Camp last winter. The facilities have improved. Nice place. Nice lake with boats, walking path etc. Thank God they ran the homesteaders out of there. The homesteaders were there starting to run the place. OR should we say "ruin the place." That is what happens when you have people stay long term homesteading. They start to think they are above the rules and the place belongs to them. Hats off to who ever made the decision to have this group of homesteaders move on. Ran them out. THANK GOD! Now we see Grassy Pond is open to the general public. Folks the general public has been sneaking in Grassy Pond for years. One time I had some civilian woman and her kids set up their stuff on OUR table outside of OUR RV. We told her to move on. I don't mind civilian visitors. To a point. If these people want to use a military facility so bad then raise their right arm and JOIN up. Serve and go places where civilians don't want to go to. Nope they want military benefits without serving. This is not right. All of us need to write to the command and Moody AFB and let the command know we served. These local civilians did not serve. What happened to the days of a military facility being there to support the troops/airmen/saliors and retirees? Guess those days went away when MWR needed to make a buck. IMHO it is WRONG to let civilians in to the FamCamp.
