Overnight stop while driving west on I20 and after the mayhem of Atlanta this place was a quiet oasis to spend the night! Google had no problem directing me to the front gate after inputting "Anniston Army Depot". Only $25 a night for FHU in a small but well kept park. After calling and making reservations, I received an e-mail with directions to the park - which are essential as there's effectively no signage directing you there....
Elizabeth City USCG Base. Kind of a hidden gem. Out away from the hustle of Norfolk and only an hour from the outer banks. 10 long back in concrete spaces just a short walk to a boat launch & swim beach on the Pasquotank River. No bathroom or showers so you have to be fully self-contained. No laundry facility that I saw. I believe it was $45/night. Couple of issues, first is none of...
Small, fairly new Famcamp on this Reserve installation. Great price ($20) for FHU. If you're in a long rig the backin spaces might be better as the pull through ones are at a 90 degree angle to the road. Very limited amenities on base other than a small shoppette and base gym. No laundry facilities on base. Shower/bath house (Fieldhouse) is a short walk away and was clean and looks new. As others...
Great location to explore the area including the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Black Hills and Devils Tower. It's a bomber base with all the facilities you'd expect such as a large commissary, BX, gym, auto hobby and craft shops. Entry into the base is a bit odd, as there's no direct road from an interstate exit. You'll come off the interstate either east or west of the gates (Liberty - Main gate, Patriot - School gate, and...
One of the best FamCamps we've stayed at. Easy access through the Sough Gate off of Hwy 232. Do note that during morning and evening rush hours they don't let you make the immediate left turn towards the FamCamp just after the gate. Lots of pluses for this FamCamp. It's well designed and clearly being maintained by the attentive staff including the gentleman we met named Ben. There's a lovely park right next to...
The camp is divided into what appears to be and old and new section. The older area has some shade trees while the new can best be described as on open gravel lot. Each has it's pros and cons. We stayed in the old section so have more familiarity with it. This section appeared to be designed by someone who never owned a travel trailer. One out of the four rows of sites are angled...
Probably one of the best Military FamCamps in the US. Clean, modern and well run. Closest to the north entrance to the Academy which usually has less traffic than the south entrance. Campsites are located amongst tall pines giving plenty of shade. Ours was a pull-through (#23) and was well graded with close access to the power, water and waste connections. Walking around the campground it appeared that some sites could be a bit difficult...
