We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Setup is a little strange as you back in over a curb and sidewalk as this used to be a mobile home park. We did enjoy the convenience of the location. Close to base facilities and saw several nature facilities we would like to visit if we come back for a longer time. Is within walking distance to beach. Very nice. Were rather disappointed when arrived as area quite unkempt. We chose our spot and hubby impressed with hookups. Site served our purpose for a short stay. MWR office where you check-in is closed Tuesday and Wednesday as previously noted. Very poorly run as one person trying his hardest to handle it all. We were very saddened to see what could be a great park minimally cared for. This park appeared to be laid out well with good equipment then abandoned....
We were able to make last minute reservations for July 4th time as traveling through area. Pull through sites along road are well spaced. We drove the park but did not use any amenities. Looked nice for family visits. We did visit the National Infantry Museum which was one of the best museums we have ever visited. Highly recommend it for everyone!! Will return when we have more time to stay.
This is a nice quiet and peaceful park. I am giving it a lower rating for distance from main gate. It is 11 miles from gate 1. If you don't mind remoteness and quiet this is a great park. Absolutely loved our stay!! Very fortunate to have gotten site 118 which opens to the beach. Watched dolphins and seals from camper while eating breakfast and lunch. Sites are close but better than other beach locations we have visited. Active runway with random check flights going at different times of day and evening. Great park after crossing the desert from Texas in July!! Was a little confusing finding main gate to enter as base has been seperated. Friendly and helpful staff. Commissary off base...good once located! Campsites small but adequate. Good base to explore area. Did go into Riverside for 1st Thursday art show. Old part of town very nice. Would stay again.
Visited in July. Has aircraft noise, but that is expected with active AFB. Sites were nice level pull thrus with dividers between. Wide enough for slides. Across from park for dogs and children. Walking distance to BX and Commissary. Enjoyable location with vegetation.
