The major improvement made in Fall was all new asphalt paving of road and parking bibs (see FamCamp Map download). Main sites (1-34) are super roomy; were formerly mobile home sites before conversion to RVs. The entire campground is flat and gravel-covered so all sites are more-or-less pull-thrus. Nice campground in a terrific location for exploring San Diego. Agree with comments in two reviews below; rotten person in 3rd review below is gone. Check-in office is not at same location as RVs. A sign at north end of large parking lot points you to a walking path to the office. Call if arriving after 4pm and they will direct you to the duty camp host for check-in. Rate for military has gone up to $35/day. High, but...

An interesting solution has been implemented at McChord, which I will come back to below. Concerning the park itself, if you like full hookups and paved roads all in spectacularly tall fir trees, this is your place. The camp staff is friendly and helpful, particularly Ron. Two separate sites are available at Ft Dix; 7 spaces on the main post next to Willow Pond and 12 more spaces a few miles east at Range 14 (Rod & Gun Club). All spaces are on grass or gravel with water and 20/30 amp electric; a dump station is located at the Willow Pond site. These aren't RV resorts; there's no laundry, showers, or camp office.
