MUCH improved since we stopped there last year. There were no spaces available so we didn't use the facilities but it looks like a campground now instead of a kinda scary south Arkansas style trailer park like it looked last year.
We stayed at Lake Martinez for three weeks in February '08. If you are looking for ice cream socials and shuffle board you will not find it here. If you want quiet camping and great fishing with quail and bobcats wandering through camp and coyotes singing at night then you have found the right place. Just stayed one night. Arrived after dark but it was easy to find the park just inside the gate. It was a little harder to find the park host's site but not too bad. Clean, wide sites but no privacy between sites. Clean bathrooms, didn't use laundry. They have RV storage for people travelling space "A" out of the air terminal. We intend to go back. Nice place. Sealions, pelicans, herons, other water birds very plentiful. Very nice beach right across the road. Water too cold for swimming without a wet suit. Little bit of aircraft noise, it's an active Naval Air Station after all. Blue Angels really light the place up during their annual air show. Some of the sites are a little tight getting into.
