Unless you get the 1/2 off with the senior citizen National Park Pass, it's gotten more expensive to stay ($30 a night up from $22). That being said, we arrived on a Sunday afternoon and the restroom/shower was not cleaned attended to until Wednesday, in the meantime no toilet paper or paper towels in the facility. The area around the dumpster was cluttered with dead fish and stunk terrible. Hookups worked well, easy pull thru on level concrete pads....
Still a favorite place to stay for a few days and just relax. Free laundry with modern washers/dryers, nice shower facility, and plenty of shade. Nice Commissary and exchange within walking distance. The base is nicely laid out and far enough north of Memphis that you can avoid metro traffic coming from the north on highway 51, or from the south on 385. Back gate is closed on weekends/holidays. I love this the best of all military campgrounds, mainly because of its location in the Foothills of the mountains with many nice hiking trails and other activities right the base. Very well shaded, very well managed and maintained. There is so much to do in the Colorado Springs area that if you get bored, it's your own fault. This is overall a good facility; very much improved management since the previous year before when the reservation system was a disaster and many permanent squatters staying long as they wanted with no room for those with reservations. Communication between the camp host(s) and outdoor recreation seems much improved. 45 day is the maximum stay limit for the entire summer season (before Oct 1) which is better for all concerned. Great little park, nicely maintained, Taryn was a friendly and professional receptionist who checked us in; exceptionally nice free laundry facility and showers. Just stayed one night. North of Memphis about 15 miles but that makes it nice, quiet and peaceful. Spacious area between sites and shade. Walking and nature trails nearby. Commissary is easy walking distance. Definitely worth a stop for only $20 a night. Can't do better anywhere else.
Nice, quiet, relaxing spot but just stayed for just an overnighter traveling from Colorado to Florida. Didn't unhitched. All pull throughs and concrete pads with 50 amp, water and sewer. Excellent Showers and restrooms in the newer section. We were in site 51. Looks like a lot of nice recreational items/rentals for the nearby lake. Grass and grounds very well maintained.
This is a great stopping place and the campground is wonderful. One mishap, however: we came in thru gate 9 just after 5:00 p.m. And only the left two gates were open. They are barely wide enough to get thru with an 8 ft wide travel trailer, and the top of my trailer hit an overhead outdoor light about 9 ft high sticking way out into the lane. Great spot! I have adopted this as my "summer home" for 30 days out of the year, having spent the past two summers at Peregrine Pines. Friendly staff, great places to walk every day, and hiking trails on the Academy grounds. There is so much to do in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas, you can't do it all in 30 days. Shower facilities, restrooms, and laundry facilities are very well kept and attended to daily.
Pelican Roost is our favorite Military RV Park hands down! We have spent the Christmas holidays here three years in a row, and love it. The management and camp hosts go the extra mile, to keep the facilities clean, neat and very well organized. There are always activities at the club house fully equipped with computers and two big screen TV's. The coffee pot is always on to make you feel welcome.
