Directions below are great, but you need to go approximately 3 miles after turning on 800, 1 mile past main gate, which is closed. Camphost is very friendly. Sites are very spacious, but open. Park is well maintained
We managed to get a site & the campground was not full. The Location is much better than Lake Elmer if you're just looking for a place to stay. It's much closer to base facilities. It's surrounded by a park & very quiet. Our reception for phone & mifi were so so, but we managed. We did not use the restrooms so cannot comment on that. Outdoor rec, where you make your reservation, isn't open a...
We went to this base because we wanted to leave our RV in storage there for the winter. It's very small & out of the way, but it worked for our purpose. The people at Outdoor Rec were very friendly & helpful. There are NO amenities in the campground besides full hookups, which was fine for us. The small town of Altus is close, with plenty of fast food & restaurants. The commissary on the...
Just spent the last 4 nights here on our way to New Mexico. Linda, the camp host, was so nice & informative. It's a fairly small park, but you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbor. There's a small pond for fishing, which we didn't do & a running/walking trail which was nice for walking the dog. There's lots of grass which to me, makes a park so much nicer. We didn't use...
You can't beat the location! The beach here is very nice, clean - sort of- every time we came back from the beach we had tar all over our feet. We didn't go in the water, but there were plenty of kids who did & it looked very shallow. We also saw plenty of birds, dolphin & sea lions. One person even saw a Whale. If you go to the end of the street in front of...
Just left there a few days ago. The previous reviewer is absolutely correct about all their comments. We were there for 2 weeks & were lucky enough not to have to move, but several of our neighbors did. The couple next door had to move 3 spots over, but no one ever occupied the spot they moved from while they were there. The views are beautiful, but the beach itself is nothing to brag about. ...
We've been here a week & really like the campground. There may be a couple homesteaders, but not an over abundance. We're in the open area, and it seems to have more space between sites. It has nice big pull thrus & level. Our area doesn't have cable but we have satellite so that's not a problem. We have a dog, so I've walked thru the whole park many times already & it's clean & well...
This is a nice campground. I was expecting it to be very tight based on previous comments, but we had no problem with our 41' class A with 4 slides. We had #18 which might be a little larger than some, but there were other large class A's there. It was spotless. The office personnel were very nice & helpful. Prices have gone up & there is no weekly rate now. My only complaint...
The views here are gorgeous! It is very peaceful. The sites themselves are a little weird so be careful when you're making reservations. If you have a big rig make sure you take full hookup because some of the partial hookups can have you on the side of the road & not level at all. The water is on the opposite side of the rig so make sure your hose is long enough to go under....
This would be a great place except for the jet noise! I know that the base campgrounds are a perk & obviously the navy has to do whatever is necessary to be prepared BUT it was soooo loud you couldn't even talk to each other half the time. We've stayed at other NAS, but they weren't like this. One night I timed the jets going over us, it was every 45 seconds for over 2 1/2 hrs...
This is a very pretty area. We've been on site 5 which is a little tight for a 40' Class A, but we have a great view of the lake from 2 points. We had to pull all the way to the front to get our satellite to work. Last night they had a dance party for the kids & a movie. There is a small beach & the lake there is shallow. There are...
This is a very nice campsite for the $$. Our site allowed us a view of the lake, but other trailers, who were long term were parked on the grass in front of us & piggybacked on the water & electric. Lori, the camp host, was very friendly & helpful. All the base amenities were close & we really enjoyed the fitness center. We stayed here & drove our car to Calloway Gardens, Atlanta & Stone...
This was a very nice campground. We had what they called a waterfront site. You could see the beach & the ocean thru the trees, altho 50's sites had better views. We were on #48 & it had 3 trees we had to get around to park our 41' Class A. They really should take out the 1st one. We were able to get satellite on our site but our neighbor on 49 could not....
I have to agree with one of the previous comments. This site needs supervision. I think it is quite far from the main campus. When we arrived the people next to us were using the site for boating & shrimping. They were really nice, but since they were cleaning the shrimp, it was really stinky until they got rid of their garbage. We had a horrible time getting cell service (verizon) or internet, using our...
We found this to be a great location. ITT has plenty of discount tickets for Charleston attractions. The camp host did not greet us, but we found him & asked questions. The grass was very high & when we mentioned it to ITT, we were told it was contracted out & the contractor decided when it needed cutting, but not less than 6" which it was way over in some spots. They did come the next...
