We've been coming up here since the new campground opened and have watch it mature into a nice get-away. Unfortunately, with the maturity comes some issues. First, the "Navy Beds" website won't assign a space and a direct call to the check-in desk can't assign a site until the website 'tells' them. With that said, the desk does call the incoming campers to tell them their sites. The campground map is wrong and misleading with 'extra' roads between campsites. We...
Just finished two separate visits within 3 weeks. We live less than 2 hours away so this is a nice 'reliable' place to spend a weekend. We don't find the rates expensive compared to the other sites in the area. We enjoy going to Yorktown and Williamsburg and learning more history of the area. First, the cleanliness of the bathhouse is not consistent...during our first visit the showers had a lot of mold and not regularly cleaned. During our...
The new campground is open. A new access road to the campground on base is open too. The road to Northwest Annex is tight and has some sharp corners with no shoulders. The road from RT 168 is shorter than from US 17 and less challenging. They have carved out an area surrounded by trees so depending on the season you'll have some shade. There is a large screened shelter, a smaller open shelter and a small bathhouse. A...
We 'escaped' for the weekend and tried out Dam Neck. I had heard good things from a couple of friends so we tried it out. What a great find! Close to the beach, quiet and everybody was very friendly. One warning...the barriers at the gate are VERY tight, DON'T try going through without first talking to the security folks. They were very helpful and very patient with us, moving certain barriers to allow for our rig...
I stopped by to check on this campground because the location is a good one. It is under new management, and the young lady I talked to was very friendly and let me drive through. The check-in building has been renovated and there are improvements being made to the rest of the facilities. All the homesteaders have been evicted. There are now 5 used RVs and 4 mini-cabins for rent in addition to the 8 larger cabins....
I was taking a day trip to Colonial Williamsburg and stopped by to check on the status of the new campsites. First, there is still no signage at "B" street to direct you to the new campground. The campsites are essentially complete and the bath-house/community center is complete with the exception of the laundry room. It still needs to be hooked-up, the appliances are still in the boxes. We were told that cable will be available in the sites...
