I can't give any higher ratings because I always end up in overflow. This camp is full of good old boys/DOD/??? who homestead. it is a waste of time to think it is worth the drive from the highway to stay ----- unless you have no need for hook ups and just want to park in overflow. it isn't even a reasonable distance from overflow to the restrooms/laundry building. I don't mind having to share and end up in...
Couldn't wait to leave. Mosquitoes were the least of the problems. Toilets and sinks had been swished out but the rest of the place has not seen a mop or a broom since the snow melted and the flood receded. We have spent dozens and dozens of nights in military famcamps and this is the worst we have ever seen!
What is it about the Travis FamCamp that drives managers to micro-manage everybody and everything? The current manager started out as an amendable person, but the office is so full of signs and rules and warnings that one can hardly find a place to rest their eyes. The same goes for the mass of maps and instructions posted outside for those who arrive outside the limited office hours. And with so many rules and directions, it is a...
We usually stay here at least one night coming and going to/from Arizona. The park has never looked better; the center area is filled with rock and recently planted trees, and looks great. The Famcamp is easy to get to and is close to the commissary and BX. We like that there are no reservations, and that has never ever been a problem to find a place to park. Site 21 - the sewer is...
I understand this place was very very busy over the July 4 weekend, as it should be, but it is very very quiet now during the middle of the week. There seems to be some of the good old boy stuff going on with one trailer being parked on a year 'round basis and rented to friends while the trailer owner is employed at the FamCamp and lives in a house nearby?? The leash law was not enforced...
I'm glad I didn't pay attention to MountainRV's comments - he must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. I agree with the other two recent reviews about this park.....it is a bit of a drive from I-80, and there could be a bridge toll, but otherwise who can complain about a Famcamp on a lake? We didn't use any of the facilities but the office was okay. It needs a bigger sign so...
The park is very well kept with nothing out of place or extraneous stuff sitting around. All the sites are concrete pads with a grassy area and a very nice metal picnic table. No sign of long-term residents. The staff is very friendly and helpful and provided us with a folder full of information about the base and surrounding area. A great place to walk a pet. If your site is the end away from...
The two people in the office were as friendly and helpful as anyone could ask for, and they provided enormous amounts of information. I felt welcome and did feel I was being given a litany of "don'ts" as has been mentioned. Everything discussed pertained to the usual park rules about speed, noise, and pets. The sites are a bit close, but that is the price we pay for driving rigs with slide-outs and using parks that have...
Very friendly camp host and hostess. He loaned us a battery charger for our dead car battery. Not a lot of sites, but a very pleasant location with lots of green grass and open space. A great spot to overnight when driving I-5. There is supposedly a shopette but we have not been able to find it. No other services. I have never used laundry or showers so can't comment.
This was our fifth one-night stay. We were pleased to see there were actually sites available and didn't have to park in overflow. On previous visits, the park looked like a permanent trailer park. Good policy change. This is a great place to stop when traveling from Arizona to northern California and beyond. The amenities are limited, hence better for just a one-night place to sleep. I didn't use the restroom/showers, but peeked inside...
All of my low scores are driven by the fact that this is a GOOD OLD BOYS network. We have tried to stay twice with limited success. The first time was a night in overflow, and the 2nd stay was 3 nights before we had to leave because the space was reserved. Reservations are fine, but retired geezers and spouses should not be allowed to reserve for six months, leave for a short period of time and...
