Another nice stay at the AF Academy. As always, the staff was friendly and helpful, the price is too high, our site was level and everything worked well. The area has had good rains this year and grasses that had been in decline for several years are beginning to make a comeback. Though we don’t always review, we spend at least a few weeks at this FAMCAMP every year and always enjoy our time here and in...
This was our first opportunity to visit Crow Creek in several years. The facility does not appear to have been changed/updated in the last several years. The prices have gone up though. Our pull-through site was level and everything worked like it was supposed to. The staff is much more responsive to phone calls than they have been in the past and are friendly as they’ve always been. We’ve always liked this FAMCAMP and...
This is a place we just keep coming back to. We had another great visit this year. It started with a very helpful clerk in the office who helped us change sites from one I knew we would not fit in (from prior visits) to one that was just right for us. As usual, all utilities worked the way they were supposed to. We were advised on how to (or not to) get around the academy...
Overnight stay. First, McConell is a beautiful base. Check in at Rec Services was quick and easy. It’s on the way to and near the Famcamp. There is a pull-out area to park while you’re checking in. We were in site 3 of Famcamp-1, a long, level, concrete site, easy in, easy out. The utilities were solid, with strong electricity in 101 degree heat. There is a respectable space between sites. The...
The reservation process for this Famcamp is unusual. You have to fill out a form, but the camp hosts will fill it out for you on the phone, then you sign it when you arrive. I don’t know if this is routine or if they were just being extra helpful for me. It was interesting writing a check to the Officer’s Club to pay for a Famcamp. This is a guard base and was in the...
Two night stay. We were last here in 2015 and the place has not changed much at all. The sites are level and well kept. The utilities work well (water pressure has improved since 2015). The grass is plentiful, well kept and green with dog stations in various places. The camp host is friendly and informative. We were there during the lead-up to the Dayton Air Show so things were picking up a bit,...
We had a very nice two night stay. The park is rustic, but we’re fine with that. We thought the price was fair in today’s market. Our thoughts were, “gee this is a nice, quiet park and we could really spend a week or two here”. The nearby lake and picnic grounds are quite nice. During our day visiting Ft. Knox, we discovered Cheryl’s ID would expire within the month. Although the pass &...
Another very nice stay at the Academy FamCamp. This continues to be our favorite FamCamp. I did not do reviews, but we had two good stays last year as well as the one this year. The facilities continue to be maintained well. We do notice there's less grass around the campground each year. Don't know if there's been less rain in recent years or what. In 2012 they had planted grass plugs throughout the...
A rating for a stay that was cancelled, and an update on directions to the FAMCAMP. Due to a freezing weather event Labor Day week, the base shut off all water and sewer at the FAMCAMP. On F.E. Warren, once they shut water down they leave it off until the next spring. When we called the week before our planned arrival the staff was very informative about the conditions and when we said we wanted to cancel...
As we and others have said, this is our favorite FAMCAMP. We had two good stays this summer. The staff appeared to take the required COVID protections seriously and conducted themselves well. The staff did a good job of letting everyone know of water disconnecting needed prior to a Labor Day week freeze event. They did not do quite as well advising about a water outage for repairs on the west side of the park the...
There is no quick and easy way to get from the freeway to Ft. Harrison. You’ll have to go through city streets and neighborhoods. Getting onto the installation is easy enough, but takes a few minutes. The guard who let us in the north gate gave us a treat for each of our dogs. He also confirmed the reason for using the north gate is the security barricades at the main gate are too tight to let anything large...
We’ve stayed here numerous times and love the park. It’s rustic, but that’s fine. Water/Electric/Sewer are good. Sites are well packed gravel. What hurts this FAMCAMP is lack of anything like competent management. There’s always some kind of issue with reservations and managing them. The site next to us has 50 & 15 Amp receptacles only. Twice this week they tried to put small/30 Amp trailers into the site. There have been several other site mixups this week. Cheryl...
Another fairly good stay. We always enjoy coming here, but as with other FAMCAMPS we’ve visited in the last year or two, maintenance seems to be slipping. There were several campsites out of service for at least a week. The camp is becoming less dog friendly. There used to be quite a few dog bag stations with trash cans attached to them. There are only a couple of stations now and all the attached trash cans have been removed....
Our first visit to this FAMCAMP, but probably not our last. As others have said getting to the campground can be a challenge. We called a few days before arrival and were provided good directions, but they ended up being difficult to follow due to lack of signage on post. After learning our way around the post we chose to depart via a different route/gate. Some of the roads on Ft. Sam are horrendous! The staff were friendly and...
Another wonderful stay! Peregrine Pines is our favorite FAMCAMP and we try to spend time here every summer. This was our eighth stay since 2012 and the staff has managed to get us into a great and satellite friendly site every time. Even though they are loud we actually like the trains. Unfortunately the prices went up this year (again). The prices are still far lower than nightly rates in nearby commercial parks, but compared to commercial park monthly...
I used to travel to Ft. Huachuca for work and have wanted to get Cheryl there and to Apache Flats for years. we're glad we finally made it. A great park in a great place run by a caring staff. All utilities were good and the concrete pads are level. The sites are good sized but maneuvering through the campground is a touch tight for a 40' MH. Like many parks in this part of the country there's not...
