Previous review from some time ago needs updating: major changes have taken place. Sites are much improved, and new equipment placed in laundry area. But those improvements (funded by a grant from my understanding) do not justify a doubled rate. Now having more experience with other military parks with which to compare this location, I agree the rates are way out of balance for the amenities offered. This park also used to accept National Senior Pass...
NOTE: At the time of our visit and through October 7, ROAD REPAIRS WILL REQUIRE REROUTING TO CAMPGROUND. You will need to ENTER VIA THE RANGE GATE which is directly across Route 301 from the main gate. You will get an email and map from the office after you make reservations, Just take the route clearly outlined on the map and you will be fine. Don't be tempted to look at the map and...
We visit the Richmond area frequently and there are only a few campgrounds within an hour drive; two of those few are military—Champs Camp north of the city and Richmond Supply Depot on the south. We have stayed at RSD in the past and it os much closer. However, Champs has FHU which we need for longer stays. Champs has laundry and shower/batj facilities as well. NOTE: This facility will close Sep, Oct, and part of Nov for upgrades...
Location is near shopping and groceries. The directions do not indicate how far from I-15 exit to Williams Street; it is about 4 miles. Once you get to Williams, there are clear signs to VA Hospital and Main Gate. The campground was easy to find. It is small but sites look new. There was no sharing of electrical as indicated in earlier information. Site were very well cared for: gravel was even raked. Sites are FHU and pull through;...
Price is right. Sites have no shade. Close together. Asphalt pad, but we needed teo stackers under front wheels to level. Also water pressure was very erratic; at times just a dribble. No laundry facility! Trash bins stunk pretty bad. Pretty lake. Playground. Office has a snack bar—burgers et al. Note re directions: Do NOT turn at Public Fishing sign. That is a state boat launch. Pass it and turn at next road...u will pass thr cabins and csn...
Our GPS took us right to the gate and the campground was easy to find -- directions were spot on! It is not far off of the Interstate which was great for us as we were passing through on a longer trip. This is a small campground with most sites occupied by base employees. It is very quiet during the day since so many occupants are working on site. The host couple are very friendly, nice folks. We were...
This is a beautiful campground! It actually consists of multiple small camping areas, including an RV park which has rental campers and a few additional open sites (which appeared to be pull in, back out judging from the position of the hookups). Each Area is located on the water: there are dozens of small peninsulas where sites can be positioned to get good views all around! Not all areas have hookups, however. We noticed that some Areas had concrete...
RVs are no longer limited to one gate. DOD vehicle sticker requirement was cancelled several months ago; ID is all that is needed. Nightly rates are $25 after November 1, 2016. One of the nicest military parks we have visited. Park is well laid out -- some sites are pull-through but all sites have plenty of space for RV and vehicle parking, plus picnic table. The sites here are full hookup and wonderful: level, concrete pads with light-topped poles...
This is a convenient location on base close to base shopping as well as local eating, shopping, etc. we went to Post Exchange and found pretty much what we needed plus got a coupon for 20% off gas at the BP next door! Reservation staff are nice but seems to be some confusion about process. We called morning of arrival to see if any sites were available. Were told one would be leaving and checkout was noon. Asked if...
Changes at Gate 9 make it easier to get to campground (see Note below). We stayed in space 15 directly across from laundry and bath house. Made our reservations via phone and just pulled in. They have name/dates of your stay and your receipt in a Lucite letterbox on your site. Couldn't have been easier. This is a well kept facility. Pads level and large. We did not use bath house but did do...
We stayed here a week in July 2014 while visiting family. E/W hookups with well-maintained dump station a few hundred yards away (behind a small brick building which sits between the two RV storage areas - turn at Elk Grove Rd. and you should see the itty bitty sign showing a trailer). Campground was easy to find. We paid by check so went to Travel Office to check in and pay (it is next to the Fitness Center)....
