Please be advised that the campground is NOT closed. They repaved the roads and as of mid-June the place is wide open with brand new roads. Very nice.
The previous comments are accurate. Just a couple of things to add. First, this is very convenient to Astoria and surrounding area. Second, this is primarily an installation supporting the Oregon National Guard. We happened to be here on their drill week-end. The firing range is right behind us so, during the day, we heard occasional weapons fire. Not a problem for us - no worse, in fact better, than being under the end...
This is a great camp. The roads are dirt and gravel but who cares? The sites are first class, among trees, and spread out very nicely. The sites are big and easily handle big rigs. No cable but the TV reception (digital) is great. Free laundry facilities were a big plus. We were allowed to wash our motorhome at our spot. The campground isn't very far from the runways at Elmendorf AFB so...
This is an ANG base with 5 FHU spots. They are located immediately adjacent to the main gate. The main gate has the usual zig-zag pattern of bollards but we had no trouble getting our 37' motorhome with toad through. Gate guard gives you an envelope for registration and collects the money.
