We have stayed at a fair share of the MIL Camps and this one was nice because it was close to New Orleans and secure. Bad news is that they really need to clean it up but maybe it's a New Orleans thing that they don't clean up stuff. The drive really needs a few loads of gravel to smooth out all the pot holes, I've seen nicer roads over seas! That or they can pave it, and empty the trash cans. Camp host didn't really seem to care one way or the other. It served our purpose of being close to New Orleans.

When I write my reviews, I try to give the pros & cons of a place, & for the most part, I'm more positive than negative. As a Navy veteran, I had high hopes for this park. We've driven through Army base campgrounds, stayed at an AFB campground, & were impressed with their locations. I wanted the Navy to represent itself well here. Unfortunately, it did not. The one positive I can say is that the reservation process went well & the people I spoke to on the phone with reservations & in the office were very helpful. This park could be so much more. The pads are level & spaced out well. The first big issue for any RV'er is the potholes in the dirt/gravel road driving around the park. While arriving & departing, we needed to drive 1 mph to avoid losing any fillings. The next big issue is the lack of maintenance and upkeep on the park. I saw a maintenance person daily, but I'm not sure what they were doing. Trash cans and dog waste cans were never emptied. When we arrived, we were greeted with a big pile of dog poop at the entrance to our site. After being there a week, we could see it was because people let their dogs out off lead to go to the bathroom and never followed up to clean up their mess. Raccoons (or some other animal) are getting fed well from the trash cans that aren't being emptied. The laundry room was not being cleaned and was dusty and had trash on the floors multiple days. I picked up some, but it was an ongoing issue. There are several cars next to the laundry facility that seemed to be parked there long term. One was in really bad shape and I'm not even sure it runs. In the common area by the bathroom and laundry facilities, there is a deep sink that is covered in bird poop and the water doesn't work. Many residents parked on the grass resulting in deep ruts from mud in the nicer grassy areas. There isn't any kind of maintenance on the grassy areas. This apparently annoyed one family so bad, they fired up their gas-powered edger (!) to trim their own pad. There is an area next to the bathrooms that looks like a dumping ground for maintenance equipment. There are multiple trailers and construction debris spread around. In addition to the cleanliness issue, there's a pest problem. There were large ant beds throughout the park. None next to our site, fortunately. However, on our morning of departure, we found that fire ants were all up and down the water hose to the rig. In addition to the ants, there is a big problem with mosquitoes. There is a 'canal' (ditch) full of water running along the park and it's obviously a breeding ground. At dusk, it was impossible to sit outside without any kind of repellant. I would have given this 4 stars on value as we were quoted $24/night when we booked the reservation in June, but they've since raised their prices to $30. There's no way this park warrants that rate with these issues. It's convenient to see New Orleans, but almost not worth all the other issues.

The old campground, just off the entrance, is nearly vacant and overgrown. The back section of the newer area seems to be long term. The front area more transient and was perfect for our needs. It was clean and well maintained. We avoided the “Tunnel” by using directions posted elsewhere and settings gps to 14’ clearance. This way in was fine. I couldn’t post a video of the 13’7” tunnel taken from the car. It’s doable but I’d take to alternate route. The Algiers Ferry to downtown NO is 30 minutes away, free on street parking and easy. Drops you off by the Aquarium. .80 a day for Seniors. Use the RTAgomobile app to purchase tickets.

Very disappointed with this visit. It is evident the RV Park is not a priority with MWR and the Command itself. This is our 2nd stay here (12/19 & 12/21). I can say in the two years there has been deterioration with upkeep. This year we found the park filled with contractors (Hurricane Ida) and permanent party (PP). In the past, these classifications were housed in overflow leaving the RV Park to true travelers. Long term RVs are neglected and the personal effects are littered throughout their sites. Dog waste all over the park and even saw PP not picking up after their pooches. There is no longer any employee(s) manning the office and they rely on the Gateway Hotel Manager to run between the Inn and the RV Park. He is doing the best he can with the tools he has. While there are two Camp Hosts, we never saw them during our 30 day stay. No voicemail and they don’t answer the phones. Laundry is $1.00 to wash and $.75 to dry for 30 mins. AT&T has minimal reception (no streaming) and Verizon is better. Park Wifi is barely functioning. With all there is to do in the area, this park could be a money maker with turnover. Instead it appears those receiving BAH get a deal pocketing a good deal of monthly entitlement.

This is a pretty nice place not too far from New Orleans. For those without cars it is a short walk to the Commissary and Exchange.

This will be the last time we come here as there are 3 different RV parks and the one for military is disgusting and dog poop no one cleans up and the sites are nasty and full of all kinds of stuff. The RV park past the office is for long term trailers who I guess work here or around here. The first one is where we are and no one does any maintenance at all; not happy about this RV park and faucets leak and grounds are not taken care of and the roads around the RV parks are still messy and it was supposed to be blacktopped, not happening. Trailers back in and drive on the grass and tracks are everywhere. Loved it here many years ago and other military RV parks are now allowing long term stays and it can be difficult to get a reservation. Good Bye NASJRB.

Always a great stay at JRB New Orleans. The main gate is big rig friendly and close to the rv park. The Commissary and NEX are walking distance from the campground. The new gas station is now open next to the NEX and has diesel with easy access for rv's. The park does stay mostly full in the fall and winter with Marti Gras at max capacity. Many things to do around the area with great seafood restaurants nearby. We will be back again.

Made reservations via the Navy lodging 1-800 number. Got a call from the park office a few hours before we arrived saying they had to close early and the camp host would have our info packet. Were also given our site number. Easily weaved our 42' fifth wheel around the barricades at the front gate. Parked at our site, and the host came over, gave us our welcome packet and we got all setup. Easy to get satellite signal. Utilities worked fine. No fenced-in dog area, though there is a small open area at the far end of the "B" loop he was able to run a bit. Also ran him in a grassy area across from the RV Park. As always, have your bags to pickup after your dog. Unfortunately, too many RVers fail to do that. Some sound of freedom, but overall it is not a noisy base. Another reviewer suggested taking Gen DeGaulle instead of Rt 23. I disagree. De Gaulle has about 3 miles of rough, broken concrete roadway whereas 23 is mostly asphalt and not as rough (tunnel is rough concrete). But, 23 has more traffic lights. On the concrete part of De Gaulle, traffic is very light, so you can go slower than the posted speed limit. 23 typically has a lot of traffic. You will hit the rough concrete part of 23 regardless of direction you come. The campground laundry has 3 washers and 6 dryers. The washers are $1 for 40 minutes and the dryers are $.75 for 30 minutes. The posted hours are M-Sat 8:30 - 16:30, closed Sundays. According to the Algiers ferry web page, the ferry is closed thru Dec 19. Parking in NOLA can get expensive depending on the parking lot you use. Thjere is a web page for NOLA parking info. Virtually every road I drove on was in bad shape compared to almost everywhere else in the south. The LA 23 barbeque joint outside the main gate is pretty good if you like barbeque. Diesel is available on base but it might be a few cents cheaper off base.

This review was left by T.M. using the Directory software: Nice park. A small drive to the city but maybe the distance is a good thing. It wasn't an issue for us. Can't say enough about NOLA. Food is fantastic and the WW2 Museum was worth the trip. What a beautiful job they did capturing the battles and sacrafices of our country. If you visit, be sure to go to Joe Patti's seafood market and stock up on fresh catches. Now back to the park, it was very clean and well kept. Definately a great place to stay.

We spent 9 nights in a Motorhome with W/S/E-50 Amp. Driving south to the installation was relatively easy along SR 23 but know the height of your rig because the 13’7” Belle Chasse Tunnel is on this route. Once on base, access to the RV Park was convenient. The campground road is dirt/gravel and littered with potholes making it a very bumpy ride. We arrived a day ahead of our scheduled reservation and although our visit occurred during Carnival season the staff was very accommodating, friendly and courteous. We were provided a very good information package regarding the campground, installation, local restaurants, and New Orleans attractions. Our site was a back-in with a concrete pad and fixed picnic table. The connections were conveniently located enabling easy hook-up. We were able to use our DISH Tailgater and also received numerous TV channels via antenna. The free Wi-Fi was good and we had no problem getting our AT&T phone signal. The laundry facilities are clean with three washers at $1.00/load and six dryers at $.75/load. Also, there is a ditch in the campground where juvenile alligators may be visible on a warm day. When touring New Orleans from here, we would recommend driving 30 minutes to Old Algiers to catch a ferry ($2.00/person each way) across the Mississippi River. Once docked near the Harrah’s Casino, you can catch the Hop On Hop Off Bus at Stop 7 or you can just walk along the river towards Jackson Square. Overall, we would give this campground a “Good” rating and would definitely stay here again.

Veteran's Day weekend 2018 Long term parking all taken by active duty. "Temporary" campsites all taken by active duty. All military bases need to expand immediately to accommodate both Active and Retirees. Look at my photo and ask yourself, "Why have concrete pads if the "roads" are muddy & full of potholes?" Infrastructure complete...ish.

There will be numerous construction projects going on in the RV park as the front and back sections need to have electric redone as they are not to code. Back section totally empty of RV's and they are starting on the electric lines. Front section will be done next and a third section for RV's will eventually be added. Several of the active duty living in the adjacent RV park have moved over to the short term lots as there was an RV on fire and they had to move about 5 or 6 RV's as facilities not working properly. The front section stays full so anyone wanting to come in may not get a site. There was a news segment on TV about the Belle Chasse tunnel in desperate need of repair and no funds available and over the years as we have been here it does look like it is not in the best shape.

We spent our 6 days here, the first two dodging Tropical Storm Cindy. Since this is the closest FamCamp to New Orleans, it becomes a mandatory stay. On the South side of New Orleans, your choice is to drive into town and pay high parking fees, or take the $2 ferry ride from Algiers to the Canal Street pier. The staff at the FamCamp were very friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. The paved sites are very nice and all utilities worked well. The only minor complaint we had were the potholed roads but, maybe that's a good incentive for drivers to slow done.

First visit to the Park, no problems coming in the gate. The exit was under construction and was a mess while I was there. The campground was about 1/3 full. The only negative thing was the construction next door, they are building and new BEQ and they start working at daylight! Its all part of the base growing so take it for what it is, its not a reason not to stay. The fire ants were on the move and when I went to the office and ask for stuff to put on the mounds, they said they would have to put in a trouble call and it could be up to 3 days...oh well don't wear flip flops in the grass.. The laundry room is awesome and the weekly rate is hard to beat. As long as I have friends stationed there I will be back!

Love to visit this place and usually come during Mardi Gras and for the first time this place is packed so I am happy to see it is becoming popular. The road was not paved since our last visit but they are filling the potholes with dirt and rocks so it is helpful. Numerous buildings and construction projects going on and word has it a fence will be along the flight line beyond the small creek in the RV park. ITT moved into the MWR building from the small trailer they had last year and the negotiated rates they have are better than last year. Do not use showers and laundry but they are always clean and in working order. The sewer and water lines here are also less than 4' apart so it may be the standard for FamCamps.

Stayed there in a 32'Class C pulling a 16 foot trike trailer. Plenty of room at the site, easy hook ups with a nice pedestal for each site. Friendly helpful staff, close to commissary and exchange and not far from the Algiers ferry to NO. Would definitely stay there again when in the area. Only negative is that there are only 2 pull through spots.

When driving in, take I-10 to Business US 90 to exit 9B 428E General De Gaulle drive. Take it until it becomes 407, then merge onto 406 towards Belle Chase Highway. The other route listed takes you down 23/Belle Chase Highway which is very bumpy and has a narrow tunnel which is passable at 13'7", but I strongly recommend taking the alternate route. The campground is very clean, well laid out and easy to maneuver around. All utilities were very good, no cable but plenty of channels to pick up over the air. Nice paved, level sites with plenty of grass between each, very roomy. Wifi was solid and laundry room has three washers at $1.00 and six dryers at $.75 for 30 minutes. The biggest complaint is about the information given by the office. Other reviews raved about Kenny in the office giving tons of information about New Orleans including the ferry, places to park and many other things. We arrived and the girl checking us in, while was nice, had to keep asking other people in the office about the things listed above and really knew nothing about the area. We arrived late in the day and were given the welcome packet and essentially told all the information we needed was listed in the packet. None of the information in it was correct. The ferry address and hours was incorrect, the tours and prices listed for the ITT was also wrong. When checking with the ITT office, they stated the contract for 2016 hadn't been completed yet so many tours were not even available. I was amazed by this considering we were there during the Mardi Gras season. On top of everything I was called back to the office because at check in I was not charged the correct amount for the stay. I can understand one mistake in the office, but with all the misinformation and the payment mistake it makes it tough to go higher than bad on service. The commissary and exchange were fine, not the largest, but had most of what we needed for a two and a half week stay. Outside of the service the park is great. Nothing to do in the immediate area, so you will drive at least 30 minutes for something to do, including off base shopping at Walmart. You will hear Coast Guard helicopters frequently since the pad is just behind the campground. Jet noise itself was occasional.
