30- and 50-amp FHU concrete back-in pad; undulating gravel roads w/potholes. The site was long enough for the 44’ coach but the TOAD needed to be parked on the grass perpendicular to the coach. The pad was wide enough on the passenger side to not have to walk on the grass, but not wide enough on the utility side. There is ample room between sites (not cramped). Sites are assigned on arrival date by phone. We were called ~10AM. Our site (#14) was fairly level (4-inch slope rear to front). We didn’t use the public restroom or showers but they are clean and well maintained. The building doubles are a sever WX shelter. Did not see any laundry facilities but there may be some in the main billeting office. There is no fire ring but there is a small concrete picnic table. Maximum static water pressure was 50 psi and our 50-amp site provided erratic 114-128 volts. The campground is well-lit at night but not intrusively so; just enough so it’s not pitch black. There is no check-in per se; the campground office was never open/occupied that we saw, but we were able to reach someone by phone during normal hours. The camp’s Wi-Fi was spotty; no ID or PW required; just accept the terms and conditions. T-Mobile was spotty at 0-2; LTE w/occasional 4G. We would stay here again. Tips: Use 300 Russell Dr. for the entry gate address and turn LEFT on RINARD RD. (BX & gas station) to get to the campground entrance. The campground’s traffic flow is counter clockwise (stay to the right). Base entry: There are permanent concrete barriers sufficiently spaced for a 45’ rig + TOAD, but the sentry gate width is very narrow! There is a small stop sign just prior to the sentry gate; hold your position until waved to proceed. Exit: you’ll find the same permanent concrete barriers. There is a small canal running the length of the southern side of the campground … where there’s water there’s wildlife. Get the ‘Le Pass’ phone app and search for the ‘Jazzy Pass’. For $3/day/person you can get on/off all the RTA transportation (ferry, buses, & streetcars) all day long! Recommend taking the ferry at Algier’s Point vs driving downtown (very expensive parking!). There is paid parking or free street parking. If you arrive between 8-10 you’ll find close parking due to people leaving for work. Ferries run every 30 mins. You’ll be dropped off by the aquarium ~1 mile from the Jackson Square/French Quarter. Café Du Monde: Overhyped + long lines. Recommend Café Beignet: Minimal waiting, same great beignets & larger food selections. Visit the MWR Ticket & Travel office (bldg. 261; across from the BX/commissary) for reduced pricing. Recommend the City Sightseeing Tour on/off bus. They have 1, 2, & 3-day passes. We did 2-days ($50/person w/military discount) which allows plenty of time to pick and choose your stops without rushing. The multi-day pass includes 2-walking tours, but we did not partake. Highly recommend the WWII Museum, but allow a FULL DAY! We were there from opening til close and didn’t get through it all (needed another hour). You can also get a 2-day ticket. New Orleans City Park: take an RTA streetcar from the aquarium which will drop you off near the entrance to the Museum of Art. There is also a Botanical Garden. Very nice park/nature walk + there is a Café Du Monde but without the crowds!
