Didn't camp here, but toured the facilities today. A few sites near ice pond that would fit a 20 ft trailer easily, but may need extra leveling blocks. No hookups at all, but they do have port potties in the loops. Very quiet and out of the way. Payment is either money order or check for $20 per night at the box at the pavilion. You can kayak or canoe on the lakes and there are trails to wreckage from a P-51 and a TBF Avenger. The civilian that runs MWR has left and a replacement hasn't been hired as of today but someone keeps up with grass cutting, etc.
We visited here on Sunday.. There are no longer any hookups at all.. No lots for RV'ers.. only tent spaces. The area is very beautiful. It's a shame they havent done something with it. No one there at all and the tick problem is out of control.. Lots of wildlife!
This is the first time I have used a military Camp Ground. As prev. reviews had mantioned it is vary quiet. They are closing down today the June 9, 08 to sweep and remove unexploded ordance left over since 1942 to 1950. The camp ground is vary nice and I will be returning as soon as possible.
Great little campground to "get away from it". Only water and electric hookups, no sewer. The dump station is about 3/4 mile away, honey wagon worked great. Only 1 person running the show so its hard to find somebody to pay.
What a quiet, peaceful place! We had a huge, level site on gravel with water and electric and really enjoyed our stay. The air station is small, so there's not even a shopette, but there's a huge new Walmart about 8 miles away that's open 24 hours, I think. It's hard to catch someone in the office, as I think it's staffed by college kids, but we had prepaid our reservation, arrived, chose our own spot and had no complaints. There's a nice little pond and playground on the station that has a couple paddleboats you can just take out and paddle around on. There are winding roads through the woods that make a really nice drive.
There were lots of deer flies so bring insect repelent. The sites were fairly large and level. Since it is a small campground, I would recommend reservations.
