It has been approximately since our last occasion to utilize this facility. The quality of our experience has diminished significantly and we will not return. Outside of the proximity to the beach, there is little of merit to this facility. On the positive side, personnel coordinating and making our reservation were professional and did an outstanding job. The ocean and beach are easily accessible, but all other support facilities at the base have been closed for the season. It appears that Labor Day is the cut-off point for operating all other amenities. The grounds in the campground are not being maintained, grass needs cut, basic repairs to facilities are not being addressed. Showers and laundry room facilities are filthy and were not cleaned during entire period of our stay. Campers staying in adjacent RV spot have encroached upon our space by not only erecting a 28-ft. travel trailer on the hardstand, but also erecting two large tents, one of which is inches from our picnic table. They have surrounded their site with multi-color lighting which was not turned off until late each night. There is no camp host or supervision of any variety at this facility, thus activities and noise in wee hours of morning are not uncommon. We have utilized numerous FamCamps across the country and this facility ranks as the very worst.

An out of the way place in Kure Beach. Quiet, and comfortable. The first parking assignment has someone in it. (computer glitch??) The second site was only 30 amps which I found AFTER backing in and getting some other stuff set up. The third site was quite nice, and the camp office worked hard to accommodate us. Like another camper mentioned, some hookups are on one side and others on the other side. Make sure you have extra hose and electrical cable. Great stop as we worked our way up the east coast. Great location, and for the price of $20 per night, what a great deal. The only real negative, is that the utilities at each site were from the old Mobile home park and are not always on the proper side of the RV, and on some sites they are split on both sides, but overall we had a great time. Pool looks new. There was free cable at each site also. Used the Free WIFI in the rec center. We will be back for sure. Beaches were not crowded at all.

Didn't look at the map to see how far it was south Jersey, but it was worth the trip, clean bathrooms, great pool, and fishing pier, bar and grill and great sunsets, could not find a better place esp. for the price!!! We will be back. We are first time military campground users and found a few really good ones on are first trip.

We have stayed at Ft. Fisher many times but this wasn't our best visit. We were in the overflow area (at $15/night) with no water or sewer and just 20 amp power, thus unable to run A/C and it was hot and humid. Terrible ant problems and we are still trying to get rid of them in the coach. We arrived on Monday after the Memorial Day crowds had left and the bathrooms/showers were terrible - but they were cleaned on Tuesday. The Beach House restaurant is closed except on weekends - too bad as it is a beautiful location for a casual lunch or dinner and a drink on the screened porch. The dump station is the worst we have ever seen - no water spigot nearby and no gravel or concrete apron. We elected not to use it. But in spite of all the problems, this is a great location if you like the beach. We will come back but will make reservations earlier so we can get a full-hookup site.

Great place to stay close to beach. We stayed in the overflow area the first night, had electric 15amp, no other hookups but we did get WIFI here. Saturday at the restaurant was cook your own steak day, that went very well, plenty of food for the price. We rented a canoe for the day and had a great time on the water. The rental place has canoes, kayaks, bicycles as well as many other fun items to rent. We stayed at the regular campsite for two nights, they have full hookup & cable but you can't get WIFI there. Overall this is a well taken care of campground with friendly, caring staff willing to give advice or assist in any way they can. We will definitely stay here again.

We were tent camping and the area was great. The staff was also excellent and friendly. Our only issue was that the rental facility was not open yet so we couldn't rent a kayak or canoe. The rental facility doesn't open until Memorial Day Weekend. The location is outstanding and we will definitely be back!

I agree with most of the previous comments. Previously my wife stayed at Salter Path Family campground near ATlantic Beach until they sold to developers. This facility is very nice and short walk to the beach, or drive and park at the edge of this compound. I have only stayed in the overflow areas; which I think I may prefer anyway. Stayed at one of the firehouse spaces. Oddly enough we liked it fine there. No cable (we don't bring TV on vacation anyway), and we stayed at the dreaded RV spot #26. We too walked around trying to figure out the best way to set up. If we backed in so server dump on trailer was directly at dump hole, our camper doors and awning would have faced the singlewide. Not acceptable. We settled on pulling through and turning right, so trailer door is facing main road. We could not hookup to sewer dump, but we could go the 3 days without it. We just dumped at the end of stay. That was our only trouble. Staff was terrific. Last Labor day they had a problem with the pool, they worked very hard to get it up and running for the last weekend of the season. This will be our local choice for near the beach camping.

Great place to take in the ocean. Gives you a feeling like the outer banks but not as commercialized. Great restaurant called the treehouse.tappa food. Only negative is the dump station by the office. They have a orv-26 site connected with with RV dump PVC pipe. When we were there an RV was at this site. There is no way I could have moved my 5th wheel close enough to dump. Thank goodness I had a portable sewage tote with me or would have had to leave a week early and find a dump station else where. They need to do away with orv site-26.

WONDERFUL! From the start, when Gene helped me with my last minute reservation for Easter weekend (THANKS Gene!) to the end - with the ease of check out. WONDERFUL! Thank you! This wasn't our first choice of places to camp (out grandson was hoping for Myrtle Beach) but it will be from now on! The RV sights were the cleanest that we have ever used. Access to the beach was close by.The staff is very friendly and helpful. The area has many wonderful attractions which means there is little chance of having bored little ones. You can watch the sun rise over the ocean and set over the river. What a wonderful view! The facilities were spotlessly clean. Thanks to the entire staff, for making our first stay there so enjoyable. We hope to be back soon.

First, the Staff to include the Director "Bill" was superb. We arrived with no reservations and he was kind enough to find us a location, even though all the RV locations were full due to the ongoing 16th Annual Seafood, Blue and Jazz festival activities on-site. I highly recommend visiting Fort Fisher, as our family had a great time. We spend the day at the festival and enjoyed all the activities. We played tennis and invited others to play a game of baseball. The kids danced to the blue and jazz music and enjoyed all the good food to include shopping around the different vendors. The last day, we spend the day again on the beach and went to the aquarium. This was our first RV trip on our newly purchased 33 foot RV. It will be one of the best memorable times and we look forward to making it a yearly trip to Fort Fisher. The facilities were very clean and organized. Again, "Bill" and his staff were superb in making our stay pleasurable and enjoyable.

We liked this RV Park. It's quiet and roomy. The laundry room is with the bathhouses but it's not marked. It's the last door on the left side of the building. It's air conditioned and really pleasant inside. I brought a chair and my laptop while I was waiting for my laundry to finish. Two washers/two dryers at 75 cents each. We loved the beach access within walking distance. There are many free public parking lots for the beach if you'd rather drive. Boarded the ferry when we left the campground as we were headed south--our first ferry ride ever. It's $15 but better check ahead of time for the schedule as we had an hour wait. We paid $15 for the truck and 5th wheel. It's a 30 min ride on the ferry and you can sit in your vehicle OR walk about the boat. You CAN drive south if you want but you have to go through Wilmington which would take you about 1.5 hrs to accomplish the same thing that the ferry will do. When we saw all the neat shops and antique shops after we got off the ferry and into town, we wished we had taken a day to do that while we were at the RV park but we didn't have time once we got on the road as we had a deadline to meet. There is no military gate at the RV park. Cable TV gets over 100 channels which is a PLUS in our book! Intermittent drops w/Verizon cell and aircard but not too bad.

Spent 7 days here. Has appx 16 RV sites with over flow. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Has 50 amp with water and sewer. Nice private showers and rest rooms. Showers and restroom are together and you can locked the door. Also has clean laundry room, two washers and dryers. Base is small. It is between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. Lots to do around the area. Love it and would stay here again.

Brought the family down with a pop up camper. The staff was terrific and our fellow campers were friendly and polite. We had a very quiet "overflow" spot that worked out perfectly for us. We enjoyed the beach access the most and used the pool and fishing pier as well. We enjoyed our stay and will camp there again when we get the opportunity.

We loved Ft. Fisher so much... so just two days after we returned home... we packed the gear back up on our motorcycles and headed right back. The Toy Box is awesome... Larry who does the rentals from the ToyBox is a wealth of info. We'll return again and again! There is so much to do between Ft. Fisher Rec area and Kure Beach, Carolina Beach and Wilmington, NC. I have RV’d a lot. This CG has the most friendly, professional, cordial, accommodating staff anywhere! A big Hooah to the Ft Fisher staff! We like it here. It is unconventional and that is part of the charm. An aspect we particularly liked the unstructured nature. Families were able to have a fun time without a zillion “rules”…very few signs and the few that exist just identify boundaries. Zero "policing" by a CG Host or MP’s…and, yet, campers were quite sociable and responsible...amazing (not really)!. Golf carts are welcome. Biking (even, horrors, without helmets) is great and the beach is a reasonable walk away. Nice pier on the river side. The regular RV sites are quite nice. What is unconventional is the spreading of overflow sites around the post. We stayed in the conventional and overflow sites. Some are great and, some are less great. But, they are $13, and I was glad they were there!!! 2 weeks ago we paid $50 at the Wilmington KOA for a site that did not have sewer and we shared the patio area with our neighbor. And, there was no river or ocean nearby. I’ll take Ft Fisher anytime. And, there is a nice museum on post. Did I mention that the staff is superb???

I would agree with the other comments that the staff is very friendly and there are some decent amenities at Ft Fisher including a pool and fishing. But we were generally disappointed in our visit and left after one night. I suspect the newer RV sites are better but we were placed in what is termed "an overflow site with a full hookup" - I believe it was #26. The check-in person surprisingly said we could park the motorhome anyway we wanted on the grass as long as we didn't block the adjacent sites and then joked that she often sees people walk the site for 15 or 20 minutes to try to figure out how to use it. In short, it is impossible to use as a full hookup, and it is a challenge to shoehorn a motorhome between the overhanging tree and building next to it. On top of that the park's "dump station" is literally in the grass approximately 8 feet from the right side of the coach where we had to park. And the dump station has no water, so people wheel their dump tanks over and then mostly pour it down the drain but then have no water to clean up what they missed The smell was bad. Again, the "regular RV sites" may be fine but we did not enjoy our visit to Fort Fisher and left sooner than we anticipated.

Nice small RV campground. Large spots and terrific location, just across the street from the beach. The RV sites have concrete pads, bath houses are clean and adequate for the number of sites. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Easy access to the ferry and short drive into South Carolina, so Myrtle beach is an easy trip. Great bike riding area and trails all the way to the ferry, around the Fort Fisher area and down by the Aquarium. Just a really nice campground, and I would definitely camp here again.

New bath house and laundry room have been added. 4 complete baths, including sink, commode, and shower. 2 washers and 2 dryers @ $.75 each. Campground still has old mobile home hook-ups, but functional. You may choose to drive into the sites, instead of back-in because concrete pads for porch are on different sides for different sites. If you have a full black tank, they prefer that you use the RV dump in front of the reception center, due to old plumbing at the sites. Grey can be hosed into the sewer hook-up at site for continual drainage. AT&T aircard is sporadic, not consistent, which can be irritating. The number one positive about this campground is location to beach. A great value for $20 a night, considering what hotels and rental condos cost in this area.
