This was our second time staying at this FamCamp and, once again, this place did not disappoint. Everything you need is on Post and the Springfield/Franconia Metro station is not far away if you want to head into DC. There is diesel at the gas station on the north side of the Post but it might be tight to access but, then again, we managed in a 38' Class A towing a trailer. When cheap fuel is available nothing stands in our way.

Super CG. Fort BELVOIR is beautiful! We were on a back in on the Potomac! We were there for a meeting and did not have time to explore the base. But there seem to be lots to do on the base….rent kayaks, etc, ride bikes, hike, not to mention the close proximity to DC. The CG is unusual in that there is no host. Frankly I think they should have one. We were emailed our site information with wifi code and rules and regs. Scan the barcode at the gate to the CG for more information including a map. Also, when arriving I-95 from the south, the exit is 161…there is no 161 B. Our site was not level side to side. We could not level it without something under the tires. We noticed many sites with tires jacked off the surface or bumpers under the tires. So bring what you need if level is a must for you. The bathrooms are nice and would be enhanced with a bench or table and hooks outside of the wet area and shower curtain. Water pressure was great in the shower. Heavy traffic on I-95 is the biggest negative. WiFi was good enough for us to use prime tv.

This campground is south of DC if that is where you want to visit but the Franconia/Springfield Metro Station is only minutes away and has ample parking. The park is clean and both the electricity and water flowed clean and strong and the cable worked too! The wifi was a bit weak but I get the feeling that is the case at most campgrounds. Our site was a bit off level but was easily remedied with the blocking we carry. The staff were also quite easy to work with and pleasant. Probably a bit expensive but what are you going to do. The big downside was the cost of diesel on post was 75 cents a gallon more expensive than off post within a few miles.

The campground at Fort Belvoir was one of my best military campground experiences. I was in Site 40 for one week. It was directly above the Potomoc River and my site was level. I noticed the sloping ground conditions throughout and that some of the sites might not be easy to get level, but back in at Site 40 was perfect. As I sat on my picnic table, I couldn't help to think about George Washington at Mount Vernon, just three miles away, standing outside and admiring his view; and how similar my view is to his. When we visited the city, we used the Huntington Metro Station about 10 miles away. The Metro is so convenient and parking was only $5 at the parking garage. We also visited the National Museum of the US Army just outside the gates at Fort Belvoir. I'm retired US Army and have to say this museum was so impressive. Don't miss this free opportunity. Also, you may want to arrange a free docent to start off the day. I think those start at 10:00am and are mostly retired soldiers and officers in the local area. They are trained and certified and will make the first hour of your visit very enjoyable. We also visited the Commissary at Ft Belvoir and thought it was a nicest commissary we have ever experienced. They even had a fresh seafood case. Overall, I found this campground to be a little pricey, but it was a good overall value to see and experience our nation's Capitol.

Somewhat over rated in our opinion. Certainly the most expensive military RV park on our cross-country trip. Outdoor Rec closed at 3 p.m. and we arrived to check in just after. There was nothing for us in the late arrivals bin so thank goodness I met a maintenance guy just leaving work who helped me because our site had changed from the info in the confirmation. The gate access in and out is a nice touch. But their one rental cabin is right inside the gate and it looks like it maybe once was the park office until they decided to rent it out. Was a sign on door to not disturb because I bet many have tried to do so. Single biggest complaint is it's nigh on impossible to get level. The RV park is built on a hill side, presumably to give as many sites as possible a nice view of the Potomac, but we think most RVers would rather be level. Talked to several folks who also couldn't get level. Modern laundry/rest rooms but had to reason to enter so cannot comment on these. Good services on post and just the place to explore Mount Vernon as well as the US Museum of the Army.

This is our first ever RV camping as a shakedown to our new camper as we live nearby. And of course as a first timer pulling a 5th wheel camper no pull through site is available at the time. But I got lucky and able to back-in properly after 20 minutes. :-0 ) . This location is beautiful, very clean and well maintained! Small campground compared to Private or Public RV Parks but I think it's a norm to all military RV campgrounds. We enjoyed our stay here, there is a fishing pier inside and outside the campground, also there is short walking trail if you like to stretch your legs. Community fire pit, laundry and bathroom is available as others have mentioned. Full size PX and Commissary is only few miles away but gas station is pricey compared to most outside gas stations. Didn't use WiFi but our Winegard antenna picked up a lot of local stations. We will definitely comeback to this place although it's a bit pricey compared to 3 other military RV campgrounds we have been into since then. The only cons I will put here is the check-in process as a first time visitor. We were not told clearly that the MWR office is away from the campground and you have to keep an eye for the very small sign on your right as soon as you come down the steep hill, then you have to turn (10 point u-turn for me) around from the parking lot to go in the campground about 600 yards away. And of course I have to make a u-turn from the entrance gate first after I found out all of these. lol Other than that, we love this place.

This is a BEAUTIFUL campground! Close to all DC attractions. Back in Sites on the waterfront are just gorgeous! Pull Throughs in the middle sites are spacious and the back in wooded are very nice also. Level concrete and utilities are top notch. Clean bathroom and great $1.50 laundry. I feel $50 a night is more than fair for a beautiful quality site and close to DC. Try and pay that any closer to DC. You won’t double it at least and you will also have way more of a drive. The employees are nice and try hard to please. Now....For the NOT So Good... HARD TO GET RESERVATIONS ...There is so many long term active duty and DOD living here. Active duty is mostly waiting on housing. There is on going renovating of housing there is a long wait. So they camp...DOD lives here as they don’t want to drive I95 and sit in horrid traffic most live about an hour away. So most nights they stay here and other nights their camper sit on sites unoccupied as they chose to go home. IF YOU GET A RESERVATION YOU MAY HAVE TO PLAY “CAMP SITE SHUFFLE”......You May have to move several time if you choose to stay more than a couple of days. I think the reservation program may need revamping. After staying here for 2 separate occasions this month I was required to do the “Shuffle” only to see other sites not occupied for 2 or 3 days continuously. I as well as others told there was no sites available and noted several sites empty for 2 or 3 days straight. There has got to be a better way of keeping track of reservations. NEED LARGER LAUNDRY FACILITIES.....There are 3 washers and 3 dryers. They run non stop during the day and into the late evening. There are many! Many families living here full time so you can imagine the laundry needs. Also DOD employees are doing their laundry here even if they are staying elsewhere! They come after work with their laundry and use the facilities. Way cheaper and better company than downtown! I am concerned with the opening of the MWR facilities to more Non Retired vets and caretakers MWR facilities are going to be harder to access. I hope there will be expansion in all military RECREATION facilities. Safe travels All!

Great location, close to DC. Didn't need to drive into DC. Took bus from the base to the metro. Metro into DC. Family friendly, large sites, great bathhouse, Wi-Fi intermittent, minimum amount of cable channels. Easy on and off base. Very nice commissary, I didn't go to the PX. Price a little high for a military campground but guess it's because of the location to DC. Would stay here again.

Wonderful experience here at Ft. Belvoir travel camp. On the Potomac with amazing views. Lots of wildlife. Fox did steal one of my sandles I left out at night. Musical campsite was biggest issue as we have had to move a few times. Great local for DC. People that stay here are very nice and helpful. Storing RV on the Fort for $5 per day. Service is A+.

Close to DC $$ clean, family friendly, large sites, great bathhouse, wifi not good. Surprised, but this is our first stay at a military camp where we never heard morning or evening colors? Easy on and off base. Would stay here again. Site #48 was muddy due to a leaking faucet that had been leaking for sometime.

A great campground to see the sights of DC. Bathrooms are clean and new and the sites are cement and level. The ones on the outer sides afford more privacy but you can’t go wrong either way.

Great RV park located on the shores of the Potomac River. Easy to get to and great location for visiting DC and the northern Virginia area. Somewhat expensive. Everything was clean and shiny and we really enjoyed our stay. We were in a 28' class A motohome.

On our annual trip south to the Outer Banks, we spent 2 days on our southern ride and 2 days on our northern one. Really enjoyed our stay. On our southern trip we were lucky to have been placed on the sites overlooking the Potomac River. It was spectacular. On our ride back up north we were at the bottom of the hill near the entry gate. The sites were clean with new outdoor furniture on them. Nice fire pits. The base was awesome. One of the bests PX's I've been too. Very nice commissary too. We are going to come back here next year and stay a little longer on the way down. Staff at the rec center were very nice and helpful. Just a couple issues, this is a review site, right? Both sites were newly cemented pads. Neither was level. Kind of strange I thought. The one at the bottom of the hill was way off. Entering and exiting the base there were a couple exits off of 95. When we were leaving the way down, navigation took us out the southern gate. When we left, there were warning signs of a low bridge. It looked like if you were taking the 95 south exit you were ok, but if you continued on you were going to hit the bridge. Well, the bridge was before the 95 south exit. It said 13'4"'s. Our 5th wheel is 13'6". I was lucky enough to have my son behind me and we crawled under the bridge and made it. But I won't come back through there again. It's exit 161. Overall a great campground.

Staff was friendly and the location well maintained. The Internet access was hit and miss and when it worked, it was not very fast. There is cable TV but we did not use it so I can't speak to how good it was. There was a few piles of dog poop on our site as well.

The sites are very nice. It is well maintained. The wifi connection is terrible. Most of the time you have to use your cell internet. We were told that after the 50 dollar across the board increase, the internet would improve. It hasn't changed at all. They have a building empty on site that could be used for many things, if they only used it for a RV park hangout. It would be nice. It would be nice if they had an enclosed dog area within the RV park.

Camp is clean and well maintained. When they poured the concrete for the pads they didn't bother leveling them. Pricey. Wifi internet is atrocious. Plan on using your cell service internet in a $50 a day camp!

This Camp is expensive and I got in before they raised the rates. We were in site #5. The Verizon signal was weak but tolerable. The wifi worked ok most of the time. The people in the Office were friendly and helpful. The sites are well maintained and lawn ornaments etc. are not allowed. Although it says there is a 14 day limit, it appeared more than a few sites were occupied by active duty assigned there. Most days they were at least 90% full. They are right on the Potomac (15 minutes south of Mount Vernon) but only 25% have any water view. You are close to DC, the Air & Space Annex is less than an hour, as well as many attractions. Overall the facilities are A+ and I probably would stay there again if I had to be in that area.

Planned on a whim a trip to Washington DC .......so we looked for a travel camp near our destination. So glad we found Fort Belvoir a really nice place on the Potomac River. It's the most we've ever paid to stay @ a military campground but we feel it was worth it. Not far from DC & all it has to offer & we took a roadtrip to Williamsburg. We stayed in our 37" travel trailer had more than enough room.

Although the campground is beautiful, there are too many downfall for us to go back. We made our reservations 1 month out and were told that we would have to move campsites during our stay. BUT as the time go closer there would be a possibility that we would be able to stay in one camp site. Did not happen. We were in Campsite 7 for 2 nights, moved to Campsite 6 for 1 night and then to a pull through (more money) for 2 nights. You have to move by noon (not 1300 as listed on the website and not on any paperwork we were given). On the first move day, the person in the site 6 was not there and we could not move. Still thinking that we had until 1300, we were waiting for them to move. At 1245, I received a call from the desk and was told to move immediately. I told him we could not move until site 6 was empty and he told me to pack up and take our trailer to the pier area and wait. There are no hook ups at the pier and with the high temps and humidity and 2 dogs in the trailer, I told him that wasn't going to work. The guy in site 6 (who thought it was a 1300 move too) showed up and moved his rig and we moved in for 1 night. The next day it was the same musical sites. The people who had to move for us to move in were there for over a year. They had a few issues with their slides and it was almost 1300 until we got moved again. This was happening all over the campground and the people that were moving were essentially just trading spots. One guy was there for 3 nights and had 3 different sites. One family was told they had to move and the spot they were in sat empty all night. The next day, they were told they had no more sites and they had to go to the pier packing lot for the night and there were at least 2 empty sites all night. They next day, they were allowed to move back into the campground and into one of the sites that sat empty. The office personnel were rude about the moving but they create this. They need more training on how to schedule sites. If you have any plans to go into DC and site see....forget it. You have to wait to move and don't get done moving until 1300-1400 and the day is pretty much over. They prices were high and are going up on Jul 1, 2016 to $50 all sites. The Wi-Fi is pretty much non exist. We were next to the tower in site 7 and really could get much connectivity. They concrete pads are very un-level...both side to side and front to back...bring lots of leveling pads. It is easy to get to and it is clean but not worth the price for the hassle.
