Stopped by to check the campground out. They weren't giving lighthouse tours today, but we met Lowell. He's one of the volunteers staying there. Real friendly person. The campground just opened yesterday and was still empty. We updated the directions and information on the campground and lighthouse. They now charge $4 for active and retired military to tour the lighthouse. The campground is very nice, but small with heavy tree coverage. Forget about satellite service. Not much maneuvering space, so only smaller RV's are recommended. It looks like a great campground for tents. This quiet and private campground is a good place to stay while touring the local area.

Sounds good! Are reservations required (2 weeks in advance), or just necessary? We're hoping for a weekend visit in mid/late July.

Reservations are not required, but highly suggested. It's a very small campground and is usually full during the summer. If you don't have a reservation, be sure to arrive mid-day during a weekday to get your key from the USCG. They don't handle the keys or arrivals at the campground. If you arrive and don't have keys, you won't get in.
