If you are anywhere in this area, or looking for a fun diversion, you will not be disappointed. We stayed at this lighthouse for 2 nights while on an extended road trip and really enjoyed our stay! The lighthouse is a little off the beaten path, but for a good reason – it is a scenic drive and it sits on a beautiful piece of property. It took me a while to find this website, but to actually book and reserve the lighthouse property, you have to first visit: https://www.atlanticarea.uscg.mil/Our-Organization/District-9/Ninth-District-Units/Sector-Lake-Michigan/Services/MWR_Cottages/ Just know that before you can stay, you have to first stop at the local Coast Guard Station – which is at least a 20 minute drive away. The address of this station is: 2500 Canal Road, in Sturgeon Bay. You will need to look for a two story white building – found just beyond a skinny light house, near the shore. Knock on the east door and wait for someone to bring you inside, where you will then sign for the keys. Check in at 1300, check out by 1200. The light house is at a different address, on the complete other side of town – it actually is in the township of Nasewaupee. Easiest way to get there? Just search in your map app for: Sherwood Point Lighthouse. Considering its age, the cottage beneath the lighthouse is well maintained and spacious. The kitchen is fully furnished, there is a full size fridge and stove, and a washer/dryer in the basement. Oh, and if you look around the reading room, you may just stumble across a few journals, where people recount their interactions with the resident ghost, Minnie. (Don’t worry, she’s friendly) To read more about the history of the ghost and the lighthouse, be sure to check out: https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/local/door-co/2016/10/28/ghost-stories-continue-haunt-local-lighthouses/92911120/
