Fort D.A. Russell FamCamp

On arrival at our site (16), there was standing water at the entrance to the site and deep mud. It was hard to maneuver into the site with a 25' foot trailer and all that deep mud. Tried to reach out via FB Messenger to ask if we could move, but never received a response. The rules ask you to not park on the grass and to park perpendicular to the site, but there was no way to do that with the pond in front of the site. There are train tracks right above the campsite with trains passing a couple of times per day. The grass is very high and with all the water and swamp land, there is a very bad mosquito issue. We were swarmed (and I'm not exaggerating) as we were trying to unhitch and set up. We had to open the rig up and get out the bug spray to be able to tolerate it. Went to Tractor Supply and bought a Thermacell just to be able to sit outside during the nicer weather. There are serious drainage issues in this campground. We had a couple of afternoon thunderstorms that didn't last very long, but we were left with a mess trying to get in and out of the rig. The laundry facility is decent, but the table to fold clothes on has a bunch of succulent plants on it that left water on the table if you moved them. The pronghorns were nice visitors, but that was the only highlight.

Tried to get reservations exactly 30 days out per their policy and was told I could only be on a waiting list. Reasons given: Other campers are staying beyond their reservation dates since May even though the written policy is 30 days max. Second reason: More than expected PCS moves. Really? Sounds like you need to know someone to get reservations at this FAMCAMP. I will submit this experience up the chain and see what happens.

We had called to make reservations a few days prior to our arrival and had requested a 50amp site. The lady we spoke with said there would be no problem and if there was no one at the FAMCamp when we arrived there would be a note on the front door designating a site. When we arrived there was no one at the FAMCamp office or any note posted designating a site, I then phoned the FAMCamp, but no answer. After a short wait we asked another RV'er and he suggested that we should just take a vacant site and so we did. After we were completely set up another RV'er arrived and said that we were in his site and should move and soon after that two young ladies arrived and identified themselves as the FAMCamp managers and were told that we must move, understanding that the other RV'ers had made reservations (as we had done) I offered to move and asked them to which site should I move, they had no clue, did not know the difference between 30 and 50 amps, and finally offered me a site that was much too small for my RV. Final result, we packed up and departed. "Total incompetence" should be the name of this FAMCamp! We shall never return!

The Famcamp at FE Warren is not up to standard to other Famcamps. Reservations are regularly mismanaged. The facilities are in need to improvement and upgrading. Access to the Famcamp is via a "detour" road that is difficult for larger RVs. The cost for the sites is too high for what is being provided. The base commander and services are not paying attention to the conditions of this Famcamp and thus has resulted in an inferior facility.

Getting to the campground at night was a nightmare. The Famcamp sign posted on the main road said Entrance but no arrow to indicate you hadn't entered the area already but rather had to take a right. Since we'd been told to look for a dirt road & the road to the right did not appear to be dirt we passed it by & when we realized our mistake stopped someone to ask for directions & he directed us to an entrance under a 11' clearance railroad trestle that was not marked at the road, just at the trestle so backing up & turning around was another nightmare. This campground would be best served to add some decent signage. However, the main reason we're rating it so low is that the sites & roads around the campground are overgrown so as to scrape sides & roofs of RVs. In addition, sites were not marked and there appeared to be no camp host to assist.

This was being parked in a gravel pit. I was stationed at this base from 1964-67. It was a wonderful active base at that time. Now it is a ghost base with a very nice new commisary and BX. The camp ground is dirt. The service next to nothing. The govt spent $1,000,000 building this all brick office and put nothing into the rv parking spots. I also found out that the proceeds from the camp go to supporting the NCO/OFC Club and the golf course. Niether would exist without the dirty campground generating a positive cash flow. So when you go there expect to be treated like the cowboy from 1850, also the age of the buildings. There is no reason to stop there if you need proper service or you are over 38' as they can not accomodate you. Actually do not bother unless you have a tent. Now if only the rest of you people who grade these sites would only rate the facilities at all locations with a higher expectancy, maybe, just maybe the services will get serious about providing facilities above a gravel pit. The rating here should be 1's and the Base Commander should be fired for stealing the profits from the Camp Grounds where the money ought to be used to update the camp sites rather than another stupid decision like building a million dollar building to service a 10 cent camp ground.
