Hey Larry....

I was reading earlier about the wildfires around Yosemite and how they are ordering evacuations. Is any of this mess near where you're working and are you and Momma OK? I haven't seen any maps of where this fire is located so please let us know. We're thinking about you!

Hi John,

Thanks for your concern. We're all fine and safe here. There's two fires nearby, but they are about 70+ miles away. The one near Yosemite grew over 400% yesterday and is only 1% contained. Looks like this one will be a pain to put out. The "Rim Fire" in just outside the West entrance to Yosemite. We're still another 45 miles outside of the East entrance.

Well, that's a relief. You guys be careful out there.

The big fire they're talking about looks like it will be a while before they get it under any semblance of control. Good luck!!

Do you have a lot of smoke over there Larry? The Reno news has been saying that the air is unhealthy for everyone. Here in Fallon 60 miles east of Reno we can hardly breath, visability this morning was less than a mile but got up to maybe 2 for a little while this afternoon.

No smoke here in the Mammoth Lakes area. The wind is blowing NE, which is towards Reno and Fallon.

A few weeks ago, there was a large fire south of the current one. We got lots of smoke from that fire. Sounds like it was the same situation you're now in. Health advisory, campers leaving early or cancelling, and it was like heavy fog at times. Ash was landing on the cars.

We're VERY GLAD we're not getting the smoke this time. We have sunny blue skies again. I sure hope they get a handle on this fire soon. It's growing too fast and too big!

Just a heads up. We were in Colorado last year when a fire started several miles from the work camping location. At the time it wasn't an issue and was "suppose" to have been under control. But it turned and we had to evac the area. Destroyed about 30% of the camp and we never got to go back in.
