Thinking ahead to traveling south in Feb / Mar I was wondering what's it like at McDill's famcamp ???? I was looking at their site and it says they hold some sites for short term transients passing through. That's US. Would probably only look for 2-3 days as we would have been to KW and the everglades by then.

Just trying to look and plan our travels.

Thanks all,
Roger in NJ

I quit going there in the winter - always full with RV's that sign up a year ahead of time, and the overflow sits in a big field with no hook-ups. Then you wait until someone leaves - will be tough to hit a site at a random date.

Has been several years since we've even tried Mac Dill for that very reason. Don't know if it's changed since then but it's been that way for years and years.

Most of the Florida MCGs are same thing, full because of the weather in the north, and snowbirds, etc.

If you have a small rig, you might have better luck in the panhandle MCGs as some sites are small and the bigger rigs can't fit in all sites.

Live in the Tampa Bay so never stay here but our northern friends who stay here do not speak to favorably of McDill Famcamp. Rules are different dependent on who you know they tell us.

Big and crowded. You might try the Hillsborough River state campground. It is lovely. You have to try reserving there online. Good luck!

Thanks All. If we do try to stay there it would only be for a couple days so even the overflow would do, that is if it's available. I would also have a private alternative backup during peak times. Appreciate your help.

Thanks,
