It is nice enough for a short stay but it is on the order of a big parking lot without a lot of space between rigs. I wouldn't go there again mainly due to the hassle it takes to get to McDill. Many, many stop lights and traffic on the main road in and the back entrance isn't all that RV friendly.

It is a favorite snowbird CG. You probably won't get in without reservations.

Plenty of space, and a short walk to the laundry/head area. Three miles to the gym and chow hall with a bike path the entire way. Not sure what folks would complain about but as long as you are OK with dry camping, I say go for it.

I have heard that they have some sites that they do reserve for folks passing through but certainly wouldn't rely on them. Semper Gumby

You won't get a reservation, but they don't turn people away from dry camping. They are not as organized in their dry camp as Key West NAS is, but it is just fine for a couple of days. We stayed there for a week + last year and had a great time. Nice beach, nice club on the beach, free wifi at the marina. My only gripe is that they should organize their dry camp like Key West and there is no diesel fuel on base. Other than that, it's fine!

We haven't stayed there in a few years, but didn't really see a problem. We had to put up at the old trailer park, still had hook-ups but wasn't close to the beach. Nice marina there where you can rent boats and go out into the bay and fish or go to bearcan island for a picnic. Sounds like it may have changed. I have noticed at MCG's these days that there are lots of Active Duty people living in small RV's. Rules are all different as to how long you can stay on a site.

Currently at MacDill and plan to be here through March. Only a couple of units in the dry camp area. We came in and right into a partial hookup site. Not as many 'free' activities as last year but still a nice place. Tempretures have been in the low 80's - about 10 degrees warmer than normal.

They've made some improvements - all sites now 50amps and moved the road along the canal to allow for larger units. Still it is MacDill - lots of regulars and a few AD.

Thanks all. Appreciate your input. We'll be heading down in a couple of weeks and if we're in the area I will put it on my hit list.

Thanks, Happy New Year to all
