Where to stay in Homestead on the way to Key West was created by adcockj
We're going down to Key West next week, and are looking for a place to stay in or around Homestead the last night on the way down there. It could be dry camping or a campground...any suggestions?
Thanx/Jerry

Did that trip a few years ago and I pulled in through the main gate and they told me to park by the gym for the evening. Things may have changed since then. Let us all know what you find out.

We have used the Miccosukee Resort/Casino.. free overnight parking in their patrolled lot. Keep right and all the way back.. go in and register (drivers license and vehicle registrations) with casino security..
If you sign up for a casino "frequent flyer" card at customer service you get a buffet dinner, buy one-get one free.. You treat Spousal Unit to dinner Southbound and She treats you Northbound..
St the corner of US -41 and FL-997.. FL-997 is a half hour drive due south to the causeway and a chance to fill up at non-keys prices..

IF you are crossing Florida on H-41, there are several campgrounds about mid-way from Ft Meyers to Miami - and easy to fit rigs. Check the maps, but three sites right off H-41 ... which is a great drive, although take is easy, as it's two-lanes and speeders abound.
If you do take H-41, stop at Shark Valley, and at the NP Ranger center ... worth it.
Otherwise, same as above. Have been to Homestead a few times, each time, was asked to park by the gym in the parking lot.
FYI: AF built a new hotel on base too, and at the time, rates were $13 a night EM. Not sure about O's ... probably a lot more now, that was about six or seven years ago.

Thanx much for the quick responses. You reminded us of the casino...we stayed there years ago, and it worked fine. I think we'll try that again.

This may be too late to help, but we stayed at Everglades National Park for $8/night. It's dry camping, but the Everglades is worth the time. We stayed there overnight on our way to Key West NAS and decided to stay for four days on our way back north.
