Whiting Field camping yet?

Does anyone know if the Whiting Field campground is open yet? I saw on the forum talk about it opening in Aug. but haven't seen anything else. We're planning on a trip up from the Kissimmee area at the end of Oct. for tent camping and I was curious if it was open yet. Also, after reading some comments on the other area grounds, which seem to be great reviews for the most part...can I get some personal opinions from you all here at the forum on tent camping in the area? We've never been to the Panhandle.

The new Whiting Field campground isn't yet open. When it is, you can bet we'll have it announced and listed here.

Blue Angel and Eglin AFB are good choices for tent camping.

We were in Milton and spoke to a lot of military retirees that rv and visit the base weekly. This must be a well guarded secret because no body there knows any thing. I asked one of them to contact MWR and find out about this secret fam camp and contact me but so far nothing.....I will call in the morning and see if I can find out any thing....

It is a well guarded secret. I've been given some information, but asked not to discuss it. The latest "unofficial" report for opening "may be" around January/February 2014.

I'll be there myself in February and will gather as much information and photos as possible.

I did find out that it was to be where the Navy housing used to be just inside the main gate the houses have been removed and supposedly the fam camp is to be there . A look at google sat. maps you can see the road and drive ways apparently because the power and water and electric is there it is just a matter of money before it is opened........At least that is what I was told....
