Hello, any golfers out there ? I'm looking for a place (mid Feb `07) to park for a month or 2 in the South/SE somewhere. I'd like to play golf while we thawing out from a cold, snowy AK winter. Any tips or hints ? Thnxs so much

You want golf? MacDill AFB has two 18 hole courses. Great club house with all the pro shop goodies, a nice snack bar and a full course restaurant. Coons Creek RV park has well over 400 sites now and they are constantly upgrading the place so you will have to call for availability. No minimum stay there so it is highly sort after by the snowbirds. Robert's trailer park in St. Pete is sometimes missed by RVers because of it's name so sites may be available there and they are not expensive by the month.
NAS Jacksonville has 27 holes of golf divided by three - red, white & blue - nine hole layouts that are assigned when you check in with the full time starter. Very easy to get off there as a single. None of the jacksonville area military RV parks allow long term parking. There is a very nice park at Camp Blanding that will allow long term parking in the winter months. There are a number of nice civilian courses closer than the military ones and that includes the city course at the closed NAS Cecil Field.
A real golf nut that has not been to the Jacksonville area would reserve a site a the Pelican Roost RV Park at NS Mayport, FL for two weeks and play NS Mayport's 18 holes of true links golf. Then move on to NAS Jacksonville RV Park for another two weeks where you will be an 8 iron shot from the red #1. Of course you can also take the drive up to the King's Bay Sub Base and play their long 18.

You want golf? Park your rig any place near San Antonio and you are in golfers heaven. There are military courses at Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Air Base, and Lackland Air Base that are first rate and the prices are very reasonable. Then there are the five star courses near by: The Quarry, Breckinridge, Cedar Creek, Woodlake, and the list goes on. The prices range from the around $30 to near $100 per round. Of course, then there are the resort courses: LaCantera [The Resort Course and the Palmer Course] and the Hyatt. Prices here go well over $150 per round. Near by are other great courses such as the Bandit [near New Braunfels]and the resort courses near Boerne. There are numerous RV parks in and near San Antonio, including parks at Fort Sam and Lackland.
