Shields RV Park

Shields RV Park was created by skyking8
My recent visit to the Shields Naval Construction Battalion Center was a couple days prior to the opening of a newly constructed on base MCG. When I learned that there was a new MCG about to be open I made a visit to it and did a detailed inspection. Future reviews will tell the tale, but I suspect that this new CG will most likely rank at the top of the list for military campgrounds. It has 60 + concrete, pull thru sites that are absolutely level. They are wider and longer than normal for a MCG and have about 30 feet of manicured lawn between sites. All have 30/50A full hook ups. The office/laundry/bath facility is located conveniently in the middle of the campground. Presently, there are no picnic tables or grills on the sites and I do not know if Wi-Fi will be available. Access to the MSG thru the main gate and on base roads is big rig friendly. Since I did not have the chance to actually stay in it, I have not submitted a review, but I hope this info is useful for someone considering a place to park the rig when in the Gulfport/Biloxi, MS area. I doubt anyone will be disappointed.

Only problem with this park may be homesteaders. The temp camp was almost full of homesteaders, some had been there almost three years! The base needs to implement a stay limit, to keep this park for the intended users.

my duaghter lives there in housing and I submitted a review. I suppose that if you're just there for an overnight it would be okay. The location isn't exactly "campground" material as it's between a cemetary and a apartment complex (civilian) with all the noises such as constant emergency vehicles. It kind of reminded me of a parking lot like wally world but with shore-ties.

We have spent the last three nights at Shields and like Skyking said, is very big-rig friendly. The entire park is level, large paved sites, mostly pull-thrus, and excellent hookups, including cable. There is some traffic noise from the roads outside the base; bushes or trees along the fence would help minimize that. Because the park is so new, it doesn't have any character yet. All landscaping is new and small, so no shade. Its okay now but I bet it will be very hot in the summer. The park is mostly full but there were a few empty spaces the entire time we were here. There are a lot of homesteaders - the retired Coastie next to us has been here for five years. But like the park manager said, the park has to be self-supporting, and the homesteaders contribute year round. She said the park has plenty of room in the summer. The commissary and exchange are small but well-stocked. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The park is about a mile from beautiful beaches, and about ten miles to the casinos in Biloxi.

We did a good review of here and have stated the "new park" quite nice, but have questioned the "powers to be" on the continuing of turning folks away because of the "homesteaders" and NO OVERFLOW avalible. No answer and no way to let ICE know of the situation as they do not participate....they have comment cards, but understand the MWR tends to ignore them....If they are going to be a 1st come, 1st serve, MCG, they should have overflow....and there is room in the area across from the park's sign.....a couple active duty "saving money" by using the campground as housing have been observed.....but this turning folks away...to include active duty and retirees has us upset and we plan to send out 2 comment cards....1 to the MWR Director and 1 to the Base Commander......There maybe open sites in the summer, fine, but winter months stay lengths should be limited....I'm typing this cause my wording is kinder than if I let Dock write it....:S
We believe the status of mobile home park will soon be a better discription....
