Questions about Sigsbee & Trumbo Point Winters was created by Kokomo36
I have a few questions for the extended stay snowbirds at Sigsbee & Trumbo Point. First, Do the folks there have any group social activitie during the winters? Such as pot-lucks, Xmas or New Year parties. If so, do the folks at Trumbo Point join with Sigsbee or are there separate groups. In your opinion, do the majority of the folks stay at Sigsbee and rotate through the full hook-up sites? What are the pro's and con's of Sigsbee vs. Trumbo Point (emphasis on the pro's)?
As you might guess, we're probably going to stay there next winter and wanted to get a feel for what's in store.
If you would rather express your opinions directly, you can e-mail us at [email protected]
Thanks in advance.

We're here now and I am in the process of doing a stickie that Larry could post with Sigsbee for folks like you based on our great experience this year. Give me a few days and I'll post it. There are a lot of activities (arts and crafts, bike rides, walking, tours) organized by MWR and both parks participate. Fellow campers host a lot of gatherings also and the group this year were great about inviting newcomers. There is a small encampment of non rotating folks at Sigsbee...maybe 20 rigs. I would say that 90% of Sigsbee rotate. The major diff between Sigsbee and Trumbo is that, per my understanding, no one at Trumbo rotates. Sigsbee has a PX and Commisary. There's a pool at Trumbo. Trumbo is close to town.

We prefer Sigsbee for the exchange, commissary, and gas station plus Sunset Lounge.
Trumbo looks a little more "rustic" but both places have sites that are pretty small by many standards.
Trumbo is closer to town but the whole island is only 2 miles by 4 miles so we bicycled everywhere. We were there for 3 1/2 months and didn't use more than 2 tanks of gas in our Jeep but did put over 600 miles on our bikes.
There was a Christmas pot luck and there are bike rides, Conch Train outings. Plenty to do so you won't get bored. Lots of crafts, kayaking, boat rentals, swimming, sunset watching, Duval Street, Mallory Square every night for sunset shows.
Pros for Sigsbee far outweigh the cons. I personally prefer Sigsbee and will return as long as I can get the old bones in that direction.
On the other hand, if Trumbo was the only location I'd still go but wouldn't stay nearly as long.

Pretty much stayed there both (Sigsbee and Trumbo) for two and 1/2 years. I much preferred Trumbo. Closer to town (work) and old Key West. It wasn't that big a deal to get to the Com and Nex. You need to have a Generator for Trumbo but they have made great strides in water hookups. If you don't want to blue boy it,, there is usually some enterprizing person that will honey bucket for 10 bucks or so. Trumbo season usually starts about the end of Oct (in time for Fantasy Fest), no rotating at Trumbo. They start rotating in late Nov. or early Dec at Sigsbee. As far as activities go winter time has lots. They always have big TG and Christmas feeds that your welcome to go to either or both camps.. Hope you enjoy,,everybody should do it once.

Does anyone know if the tent camping area is packed in the winter time too? I am looking to spend a month or two down there camping and dont know if they expand the the tent area if the 15 or so spots get filled up.
Thanks

Last season I don't think I ever saw all the tent sites occupied. The ones close to the water got a lot of use but there are others away from the water...and away from the water can be good when the wind blows. I'd call the office to get their take on this.
BTW: my Sigsbee for Newbies is in the "Files" folder Clicky
