Re Lejeune/Onslow: Just a heads up if you are coming south on Hwy 24 and plan to use the NC 172 shortcut...as of 23 Oct you cannot. You have to use Piney Green or the Main Gate. They had mega rains here a week or so ago and it washed out several roads including 172 both off and on-base. Might check with the Onslow office before you come to see if they have repaired them.

I must be slipping as a camp host. The following gates are now available to come onto Camp Lejeune for easy access to Onslow Beach: Main Gate off of Rt. 24, Truck Gate off of Rt. 24 (only on weekdays from 5am and 7pm, and the Sneads Ferry Gate off Route 17. Rt 172 is open from the Sneads Ferry gate to Beach Road to Onslow. Route 172 from the Swannsboro Gate to just before Beach Road is still closed.
Yes, we had a little rain when the storm came up the east coast. In fact, we had 13 inches over four days. For 3-4 days things were very iffy. You could not get to mainside from Onslow directly. It was not fun.
