I just left a review of Smith Lake at Fort Bragg but I wanted to also let users of this board know what I discovered today. We have stayed at Smith Lake many times and have found the campground to be well worth staying at except the two ways of getting to the campground were absolutely horrible. The entrance from Murchison Road forced you to drive city streets through Fayetteville and cross over an extremely difficult railroad crossing that has damaged many motor homes and trailers over the years. The other route is to take I-295 off of I-95 which is a much easier route until you got to the entrance to Smith Lake off of Honeycutt Road. There you would encounter a very rough, dusty and dirty road that seemed to take for ever and thoroughly rearranged everything in your storage cabinets. Now for the good news: That dusty, dirty road has now been paved all the way to the lake. In fact, it will be part of an exit already under construction off of I-295. For those of you who have not been in Fayetteville for awhile, road construction is going great guns. Funds have been allocated to build I-295 all the way to Yadkin Road and this should be done sometime in 2015. Eventually I-295 will skirt around Smith Lake and the edge of Fort Bragg as it continues to I-95 south of Fayetteville. With FORSCOM and the US Army Reserve Command now at Bragg, Bragg Boulevard will be closed completely to traffic passing from Fayetteville to Spring Lake.

Did you experience the UH60s flying overhead at all hours of the night doing NVG work?
