Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. We try to get out here each year at Christmas. Missed it last year when the wife had open heart surgery but thankfully, she's doing well and we got a waterfront site at the Roost this year. I know I'm a broken record praising this place but it doesn't get much better than this IMHO and we've stayed at MCGs all over the country. It's like coming home after spending three years here on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, 3 more on the Frigate USS W.S. Sims and a tour of shore duty. As reported a couple of months ago, you can now make reservations for the waterfront sites. All the best to Larry and his family and all the members here that make this such a great source of info.

Riding around the base today we saw lots of fairly new family housing. It is really nice stuff. Then we rode through the older family housing. It's what many of us remember....concrete block construction. It still looks very servicable. Then I saw a sign that said military retirees could rent the older housing on base. I called the number on the sign and was told you can rent a two bedroom, 900 square foot unit for about $1100. That price includes most utilities, electric and cable included as well as grounds maintenace. They also had 3 and 4 bedroom units for a little more.
