Called this morning to make reservations but was advised they don't make reservations. Stated policy is first come-first served. We hope to stay there 6-10 days mid April but hate to drive over eight hours only to find no spots available. For campers staying there since upgraded are you seeing folks being turned away?

We experienced the same policy several years ago at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Fla. We cushioned our plans by making a reservation at a private campground in the area. Fortunatly when we were nearing the area I called Tyndall and found that they had several campers leave and had some sites open for us. So try that. You can always cancel the private reservations.
Good luck. Charleston is a great town to visit. Don't forget dinner at Hymans Fish Market.

We arrived early April and almost had to go to overflow. Fortunately a site opened within 40 minutes and we moved to it. Since then the park has slowly emptied and many sites are open. A few RVs have come and gone but I guess right at Early April was a bad time to get here with so many RV'ers heading back North all at once. We have been coming here for years, even before the improvements and never been turned away. The 2 camp hosts here are extremely friendly/helpful. WiFi is excelent. Facilities on base are convienant. My only problem with this facility is that they have spaces reserved for 30 days to 2 YEARS! These reserved spots are also the very shady spots which would be very nice to those traveling in mid-summer. I also personally believe that staying at a recreational site for 2 years is not recreating but using it as housing. Other than that this facility is ABSOLUTELY excellent.

We arrived Thursday and are really enjoying our stay. There were plenty of sites available when we arrived. Wes and Ted are great hosts. Our site has a full concrete pad with plenty of room for our 32'fifth wheel and our dually parked in front. Bath houses are extremely clean. Wi-Fi works great and even though there is no cable getting adequate channels over the air. Commissary and Exchange are nice and retiree's can eat in the dining facility (chow hall). Will do the formal rating once we leave next Wednesday.
